Behren Morton, having spent significant time in Lubbock as the starting quarterback for Texas Tech, holds a deep appreciation for his former head coach, Joey McGuire. As he addressed the crowd during Texas Tech’s pro day, Morton shared his optimistic outlook for the Red Raiders under McGuire's leadership.
Morton, who led Texas Tech to their first-ever Big 12 championship, is confident that the program’s success is just beginning. When asked about the team’s future, Morton didn’t shy away from bold predictions.
He expressed strong belief in McGuire’s ability to lead Texas Tech to multiple championships. “Oh man, a lot of championships for sure,” Morton stated, emphasizing that with McGuire at the helm, winning is on the horizon.
This past season showcased the potential for greatness in Lubbock. The Red Raiders made a significant leap from a 7-6 record to securing 12 wins, including a triumphant Big 12 championship game.
Morton praised McGuire's leadership, noting, “That guy has done so much for this program.” While McGuire is a key figure, the success is also credited to the collective effort and investments made to bolster the team.
Yet, McGuire’s strategic hires and leadership style have undeniably transformed the program. Morton’s admiration for McGuire is clear.
“Love that guy to death,” he said. “If Joey McGuire is your head coach, you’re going to be winning football games.”
