Colorado is making another roster move before a big one at Folsom Field, and this time the changes are official.
BuffZone’s Brian Howell reported that defensive backs Jah Jah Boyd, Justin Eaglin, and Paul Omodia were dismissed from the Buffaloes before Saturday’s game against No. 12 Texas Tech. All three arrived as transfers ahead of the 2026 season, but they are no longer with the program, and their player profiles have been removed from the Colorado Athletics website.
The departures leave Colorado even thinner in the secondary, which is already a concern with defensive backs Makari Vickers and Jason Stokes Jr. expected to be out because of injuries. The Buffs do have some stability there, with Boo Carter, Randon Fontenette, and Naeten Mitchell expected to be available. The question now is what the depth behind them looks like.
There is better news up front. Colorado should have a little more help on the defensive line with Santana Hopper and Samu Taumanupepe listed as probable.
Even so, the possible absence of Lamont Lester Jr. looms large. He leads the team with four sacks, and losing him would be a real hit to Colorado’s chances of pulling off an upset against the Red Raiders.
Sanders had hinted back in September that roster changes were coming, though he didn’t name the players at the time. He did, however, make clear how he was viewing the situation.
"It's never one," Sanders said when asked about the moments that led up to the dismissals in late September. "Those guys could tell you, I'm the most loving and giving and forgiving man you could ever meet.
But when you start being conduct detrimental to the team, that will set us back in things that you're doing that you don't care about the team. You care about you."
"I have a problem with that, and a year ago, I didn't put my foot down in it enough. It lingered a little bit, now, then it imploded.
I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that anymore," said Sanders.
Colorado went 3-9 in the 2025 season, and Sanders rebuilt the roster after that finish. The Buffaloes are 2-2 through their first four games this season, and with Texas Tech coming in, the next step is whether they can keep things competitive at home against one of the nation’s top teams.

Texas Tech Fans Stumbled Onto A Colorado Mystery Before Kickoff
Texas Tech supporters got an unexpected glimpse behind the curtain before kickoff when a 25-page Colorado game plan playbook was reportedly found at the Buffaloes' team hotel. The document appeared authentic and, according to the report, lined up with plays Colorado actually used in the game, turning what might have been a routine pregame footnote into a curious subplot around the matchup.
The game itself only deepened the intrigue for the Red Raiders, who watched Colorado struggle through a 29-7 loss marked by turnovers and interceptions. After a third straight defeat, Deion Sanders pointed to problems inside the program and said the Buffaloes will open up the quarterback competition during the bye week, leaving plenty of questions for a team trying to steady itself. Texas Tech Defense Just Turned A Nervy Start Into A Statement Win
Texas Tech walked into Boulder facing a tricky setup and spent the first half looking like a team trying to find its footing. Colorado had the early edge, but the Red Raiders kept hanging around long enough for the defense to start tilting the game their way, and once the takeaways started coming, the whole mood of the night changed.
John Curry, Brice Pollock and Malik Esquerra each came away with interceptions as Texas Tech turned a halftime deficit into a 29-7 win. Will Hammond threw for 134 yards and a touchdown, while J'Koby Williams and Quinten Joyner also found the end zone, giving the Red Raiders a road victory that felt a lot cleaner by the finish than it did when it began. Texas Tech Escapes One Cameron Dickey Fear But Another Question Looms
Texas Tech got one encouraging bit of news out of Cameron Dickeys ankle injury from the Colorado game when X-rays came back negative, easing fears of anything catastrophic. Head coach Joey McGuire said the back is likely dealing with a high ankle sprain, but the timing of the Red Raiders open week gives the staff at least a chance to see if Dickey can work back in time for Arizona State.
Even with Dickey sidelined, Quenten Joyner handled a bigger workload and made his presence felt in the win over Colorado. That keeps Texas Tech from feeling completely exposed if Dickey needs more time, but it also leaves a familiar question hanging over the next stretch: how much of the offense will be available when the Red Raiders return to the field?
