Christian Anderson Nears Full Strength for Texas Tech's March Madness Showdown

Texas Tech gears up for March Madness with star point guard Christian Anderson nearly recovered, boosting the team's optimism as they prepare for their opening game.

Texas Tech Ready for March Madness Opener Against Akron

TAMPA, Fla. - As the NCAA Tournament kicks off, Texas Tech's basketball team is gearing up to face Akron in the first round with a roster that's as healthy as it's been in a while. The Red Raiders are counting on their star, All-American point guard Christian Anderson, to be in top form for March Madness.

Anderson, who recently assured fans and media of his readiness, stated, "I'm feeling good, close to 100 percent." This comes after a scare during the Big 12 Tournament when he slipped on the ASB GlassFloor LED court. Thankfully, the conference switched to a traditional hardwood floor for the later rounds, avoiding further mishaps.

Before Anderson's exit in that game, LeJuan Watts also left due to an injury. Watts was uncertain if the court was to blame or if it was a collision with another player. However, head coach Grant McCasland provided a positive update, saying Watts looked strong in practice leading up to the selection show.

The Red Raiders' practice on Thursday was a lively affair, with Anderson and Watts both moving well and displaying their usual energy. Coach McCasland expressed his optimism, stating, "No problems. We're excited to have a healthy group."

Toppin's Absence Due to ACL Surgery

Unfortunately, JT Toppin won't be joining the team in Tampa. The standout player recently underwent surgery for a torn ACL, an injury he sustained in February against Arizona State. Toppin, a trailblazer for the Red Raiders as a multi-time consensus All-American, had an impressive season, averaging 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds, both career highs.

With his future undecided, Toppin has one year of eligibility left, leaving fans and analysts speculating on his next move. For now, Texas Tech is focused on their tournament journey, ready to showcase their resilience and depth in the face of adversity.
