The Texas Rangers may be staring at the end of a disappointing 2026 season, but the bigger conversation is already shifting toward what comes next. Three years removed from their World Series title, the club still has room to reshape the roster, and the infield is one area that could use a lift - especially from the left side.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter thinks the Rangers could make that kind of move in free agency, and his prediction is a familiar but polarizing name: New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.
"Finding a clean landing spot for Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not easy, but he would give the Rangers the boost in athleticism and left-handed pop they are lacking, albeit at a premium price," Reuter writes.
That premium price is the big question. Chisholm is expected to command a hefty deal this offseason, and Texas, if it decides to spend, would be betting on upside more than certainty.
The appeal is obvious. Chisholm is 28, a two-time All-Star, and brings rare power-speed juice.
He has 19 homers and 40 stolen bases this season, and last year he went even bigger with 31 home runs and 31 steals. That kind of production can change a lineup fast.
But the warning label is just as clear. Chisholm has been up and down, and the numbers tell the story: a .715 OPS this season, which is below average, compared with a .813 OPS last season, which was well above average.
So if the Rangers chase him, they’ll be asking the same thing every interested team has to ask: Which Jazz Chisholm Jr. is showing up?
If it’s the version from 2025, a major contract could look justified. If it’s the most recent version, then the kind of deal Reuter projects for Texas could turn into a costly mistake.
Either way, the fit is easy to see. Chisholm’s left-handed bat, athleticism, power, and speed would give the Rangers a real jolt.
The catch is that it would come with serious risk.
