The Texas Rangers edged out the San Francisco Giants with a thrilling 6-5 victory, boosting their Spring Training record to an impressive 16-11. With the Cactus League winding down, the Rangers are capitalizing on every opportunity to fine-tune their game.
Friday night at Surprise Stadium saw the Rangers hosting their final home game of the 2026 Cactus League season, and they didn’t disappoint. Nathan Eovaldi, the Rangers' Opening Day starter, showcased his readiness for the regular season. Eovaldi delivered four shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, although he didn't record any strikeouts in this outing.
Luis Curvelo took over from Eovaldi, pitching two innings and conceding two runs on two hits, while also striking out two Giants. Josh Sborz faced a tough inning, allowing three runs, which is a rare misstep in his otherwise solid Spring Training.
Carter Baumler continued to shine this spring, earning the win with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts, further solidifying his strong preseason performance.
The Rangers' offense came alive in the eighth inning, where they scored all six of their runs. The highlight was a Jake Burger grand slam that electrified the crowd. Josh Smith also played a crucial role, delivering a two-run single that ultimately secured the victory for Texas.
The lineup was packed with regulars, starting with Brandon Nimmo, who led off and played right field, drawing a walk. Wyatt Langford maintained his hot streak, adding another hit to raise his batting average to an impressive .444. Corey Seager, manning shortstop, also contributed with a base hit.
Jake Burger, who played first base and batted cleanup, provided the night’s big moment with his grand slam. Joc Pederson, facing one of his former teams, served as the designated hitter, while Alejandro Osuna came in for a pinch-hit at-bat and notched a base hit. Josh Jung, playing third base, continued his return from a Spring Training injury.
Josh Smith, starting at second base, was instrumental with a pair of hits, including the game-winner, showcasing his clutch performance.
As the Rangers gear up for the regular season, their blend of solid pitching and explosive offense could make them a formidable force. Fans have plenty to be excited about as they look forward to the upcoming games.
