Rangers Turn To Jacob deGrom For First Win

Jacob deGrom aims to set the tone for the Rangers as they seek their first win under new manager Skip Schumaker against the Phillies.

The Texas Rangers are gearing up for a Saturday showdown against the Philadelphia Phillies, hoping to bounce back from their 5-3 loss in the season opener. After a whirlwind start with four games against the Boston Red Sox, the Rangers enjoyed a breather post-Opening Day, setting the stage for Game Two against Philadelphia.

Taking the mound for the Rangers is Jacob deGrom, making his 2026 debut. Last season, deGrom was a standout, earning All-Star honors with a 12-8 record and a 2.97 ERA. This year, he's eyeing a hefty 200 innings, and his journey kicks off at the familiar Citizens Bank Park, where he’s had plenty of battles during his time with the Mets.

On the other side, the Phillies will counter with right-hander Aaron Nola. This marks the first time the Rangers will face a righty in the Skip Schumaker era, adding an interesting twist to the matchup.

Look for Joc Pederson and Evan Carter to make their season debuts in the starting lineup after coming off the bench in the opener. Meanwhile, Schumaker is still on the hunt for his first win as the Rangers' skipper.

The Rangers will aim to carry over the momentum from their ninth-inning rally on Opening Day. Down 5-0, they clawed back with a Jake Burger two-run homer and a Danny Jansen RBI single, putting the tying run at the plate against Phillies closer Jhoan Duran. Although they fell short, Schumaker remains optimistic, emphasizing the quality of those at-bats as a positive sign.

Following Saturday's clash, the Rangers will wrap up their series with the Phillies on Sunday, featuring the much-anticipated debut of MacKenzie Gore for Texas. Snagging the next two games would certainly set a positive tone for the Rangers as they embark on their 2026 campaign.
