Rangers Blow Late Lead Then Pull Off Wild Win

Rangers rebound from a late collapse to secure a thrilling extra-inning victory over the Phillies.

In a thrilling showdown, Jake Burger and Corey Seager each launched homers to power the Texas Rangers past the Philadelphia Phillies, clinching a 5-4 victory in 10 innings. The Rangers, who let a three-run lead slip in the ninth, showed resilience in extra innings to seal the win.

The Phillies kept it interesting right up to the end. Bryce Harper, shaking off an 0-for-8 start to the season, delivered a broken-bat single to right field off Tyler Alexander, narrowing the gap to 5-4. However, Alec Bohm's pop-up ended the rally, with Alexander securing the save.

The extra innings drama began with Wyatt Langford singling off Phillies closer Jhoan Duran, pushing the automatic runner to third. Duran then threw a wild pitch, allowing Brandon Nimmo to score, and Andrew McCutchen added an RBI single to give the Rangers a 5-3 lead.

Chris Martin picked up the win, getting the final out in the ninth after the Phillies tied it with three unearned runs. Burger's second error of the game at first base opened the door for the Phillies.

With two outs, the Phillies loaded the bases, and Adolis Garcia, benefiting from a dropped foul ball by Burger, hit an RBI double. Brandon Marsh followed with a clutch two-RBI single to level the score.

Seager set the tone early, blasting a two-out solo homer off Aaron Nola in the first inning. Burger continued his power surge with a two-run homer in the third, marking his second consecutive game with a long ball.

The Rangers had to adjust quickly as Jacob deGrom was scratched from his start due to neck stiffness. Jacob Latz stepped up, delivering four shutout innings and allowing just three hits.

Meanwhile, the Phillies received some promising updates from their farm system. Zack Wheeler, recovering from a blood clot and surgery, pitched three shutout innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He looked sharp, striking out three and walking one. Also, reliever Orion Kerkering made progress, striking out one in a scoreless inning during his rehab stint.

Looking ahead, the Rangers will send MacKenzie Gore to the mound, while the Phillies counter with lefty Jesús Luzardo. Fans can expect another exciting matchup as these teams continue to battle it out.
