The Seattle Mariners have always prided themselves on a strong pitching foundation, and this season is shaping up to be no different. With a robust starting rotation and a bullpen brimming with depth, the Mariners are well-prepared. However, the nature of the game means relievers come and go, so Seattle recently added another arm to their mix.
The Mariners have signed 27-year-old right-hander Brendan White to a minor-league deal. White, who spent six years with the Detroit Tigers, brings some major league experience to the table. In 2023, he appeared in 33 games, pitching 40 2/3 innings with a 5.09 ERA, striking out 44 and walking 15.
White's journey hasn't been without its challenges. An injury in 2024 led to his designation for assignment, but he returned to the Tigers on a minor-league contract. Last season, he struggled with a 7.24 ERA over 27 Triple-A appearances and finished the year with the independent Lancaster Stormers of the Atlantic League.
While not expected to crack the Mariners' opening day roster immediately, White is seen as a project with potential. If he can refine his skills, he might just find his way back to the majors, ready to step in when the team needs him most.
