The Rangers got a much-needed bit of news on Jacob deGrom on Tuesday, and it points to a possible return sooner rather than later.
DeGrom, who has been dealing with right triceps fatigue, threw a bullpen session, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. He won’t take the ball Wednesday against the Angels, but there is at least a chance he could be lined up for Thursday’s game against the Nationals.
“Jacob deGrom threw a bullpen session today, per Skip Schumaker. He won’t start tomorrow, but could potentially start on Thursday against the Nationals,” Landry wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Before the Rangers’ game Tuesday, Kane McCutchen reported that deGrom was already back out throwing at Globe Life Field, and he noted the work was coming from a considerable distance.
“Jacob deGrom is out throwing at Globe Life Field right now. Looks to be from a pretty good distance as well,” McCutchen wrote on X. “deGrom left his last start against the Angels after just two innings on August 13 after experiencing right triceps fatigue.”
For Texas, the encouraging part is that the injury does not appear to be especially severe. The club has 37 games left as it tries to make a push in the AL West, and getting deGrom back would matter plenty down the stretch.
The veteran right-hander has put together a 3.95 ERA with 147 strikeouts and an 8-8 record across 23 starts so far this season.
The Rangers entered Tuesday at 61-64, sitting two games behind the top spot in the AL West as they prepared for the series opener against the Nationals. Whether deGrom gets the nod Thursday is still to be determined, but the latest update gives Texas some hope.

USA Today Just Reignited The Globe Life Field Debate
USA Todays latest ballpark rankings have put Globe Life Field back in the spotlight, and not in a flattering way for the Rangers. The home of Texas baseball landed 29th out of 30 major league parks, with the ranking taking aim at the venues atmosphere, its scale and its setting in Arlington, while also acknowledging the stadiums modern amenities.
For Rangers fans, the reaction probably feels familiar because the debate around Globe Life Field has never really gone away. Some still measure it against the clubs previous ballpark, and the new one continues to draw the same kinds of complaints about a lack of mass transit and a playing environment that tends to favor pitchers, even as others appreciate what the park offers on the comfort side. Cade Cunningham Adds A Surprising Boost To Rangers Playoff Push
As the Rangers remain near the top of the AL West, they have picked up an unusual bit of support from a prominent name far removed from baseball. Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, who owns a minority stake in the club, has already shown plenty of interest in the team since joining the Sportsology Capital Partners group that bought into the franchise in February.
Cunninghams connection has gone beyond paperwork and into the public eye, including a first-pitch appearance at a Rangers game in 2025. He has also offered his thoughts on what the club needs to do to reach the postseason, giving Texas a surprising crossover voice at a time when every bit of momentum matters in a tight playoff race.
