Tre Johnson Named to NBA Rising Stars Roster, Set to Compete in All-Star Weekend Showcase

Tre Johnson’s rookie season just got another spotlight moment.

The former Texas Longhorn and current Washington Wizards guard has been named one of 29 players selected to participate in the NBA Rising Stars event during All-Star Weekend - a nod to both his promising start in the league and the buzz he generated as a top college prospect.

Drafted sixth overall last summer, Johnson has quietly put together a solid first act in the NBA. Through his first 40 games, he’s averaging 12.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per contest. He’s shooting an efficient 44% from the field and an impressive 38.6% from beyond the arc - numbers that speak to his scoring versatility and ability to stretch the floor, even as a rookie.

Now, he’ll take the national stage in Indianapolis as part of Team T-Mac, coached by Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady. Johnson will be joined by fellow up-and-comers Kon Knueppel, Ajay Mitchell, Alex Sarr, Cam Spencer, Jaylon Tyson, and Kel’el Ware in a showcase that blends young NBA talent with standout G League and international prospects.

For Johnson, this is another chapter in a fast-rising career that’s already seen plenty of spotlight moments. The 6-foot-6 guard from Garland, Texas, was a standout during his lone season at Texas, where he averaged 23 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 33 games. His scoring punch and leadership helped guide the Longhorns back to the NCAA Tournament, and his draft stock soared as a result.

Now, less than a year into his pro career, Johnson’s already making waves among the league’s next generation of stars.
