Texas Win Came With A Missouri Concern Fans Can't Ignore

In the midst of a decisive win, the Texas Longhorns face uncertainty with key players sidelined due to injuries, leaving questions about their lineup as the season intensifies.

Texas left Saturday night with a 31-3 win over Mississippi State, but the injury list kept growing as the game wore on.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t sugarcoat it afterward, saying the Longhorns are suddenly juggling a pile of uncertain situations.

"Graceson Littleton didn't finish the game, Cam Coleman didn't finish the game, Kade Phillips didn't finish the game, Hollywood Smothers didn't finish the game, Ryan Wingo didn't finish the game," Sarkisian said. "The severity of all those guys is unknown at the moment. ... That recovery has to start now for a lot of these guys."

One of the clearest concerns was Littleton, who appeared to be dealing with an ankle or heel issue. He left early, tried to work it out on the sideline, and never made it back. Warren Roberson stepped in at outside corner, which pushed Bo Masco into the slot.

Littleton was among the first players out of the locker room at halftime and spent time in the end zone running with a trainer to see how the leg responded. Even then, he kept testing the right foot and ankle area, but he never looked healthy enough to re-enter.

That’s a problem for Texas because Littleton has been a major piece of the defense, piling up 27 total tackles, five passes defended and one interception this season. He’ll need to be right before the Longhorns head to Missouri.

Coleman’s night started with a bang. He grabbed two catches for 61 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive.

Then things changed fast. He went to the locker room in the first half and was back on the sideline before halftime in sweatpants and a hoodie.

What exactly he’s dealing with isn’t clear, but he appeared to be protecting his left arm under his jacket and wasn’t moving it much while walking with the team at halftime. He jogged off without an obvious limp, which suggests the issue may be upper-body related.

Coleman also dealt with an upper-body injury during the week after a hard fall against Ole Miss, so this may be a similar situation. For now, that’s all anyone can safely say.

Smothers also left with a lower-body injury in the second half. He didn’t stay down long, but he was sitting up and holding his left knee before getting helped off with both arms around the training staff.

The reaction in the stadium said plenty. After the hit, the crowd at DKR gasped when the replay hit the jumbotron. From the press box, it was tough to see exactly what happened, but the response suggested it looked rough, even if that doesn’t tell the whole story about the severity.

Texas may need to lean more heavily on Raleek Brown and Michael Terry III if Derrek Cooper and Smothers aren’t at full strength. Cooper had just one carry for five yards and has been dealing with a lingering injury seemingly all season.

Wingo and Phillips were tougher to pin down. There wasn’t a clear moment for Wingo beyond one low, hard hit that left him getting up a little gingerly. Phillips, meanwhile, barely played in the second half, which points to something that may have happened earlier in the game.

Ole Miss Just Landed In The Arch Manning Rumor Storm

Arch Mannings name is back in the rumor cycle, and this time the speculation is stretching well beyond the usual offseason chatter. Reports around the Texas quarterback have picked up after former ESPN analyst David Pollack said an SEC coach suggested Manning could move on from Texas after the 2026 season, with Georgia mentioned as a possible destination. Other reporting has also connected Manning to Ole Miss, adding another layer to a conversation that has quickly spread across the SEC.

For Texas, the bigger point is not the destination being floated but the fact that Mannings future is suddenly being discussed at all. He has not commented publicly on the rumors and remains committed to the Longhorns for now, but the noise around him is only going to grow as long as outside voices keep attaching his name to other programs. In a sport where quarterback movement can reshape everything, even a stray rumor about a player like Manning is enough to keep people watching closely. [Read more 🡒]

Cam Coleman Gave Texas A Spark Then Left Fans Worried

Cam Coleman gave Texas exactly the kind of early burst it needed against Mississippi State, turning two catches into 61 yards and a touchdown before the first half had even settled in. After being listed on the injury report earlier in the week with a shoulder issue from the previous game, he was cleared to play and looked ready to make an immediate impact.

Then came the part that had Longhorns fans watching closely. Coleman was seen heading to the locker room in the second quarter without any obvious injury moment on the field, leaving a jolt of concern after such a promising start and raising fresh questions about his status for the rest of the game. Texas Defense Suddenly Has A New Mississippi State Problem

Mississippi State is making another quarterback change before facing Texas, with AJ Swann set to start in place of injured starter Kamario Taylor and backup Parker Puckett. For the Longhorns, it adds a fresh layer to a matchup already shaped by uncertainty, because Swann arrives with prior college experience but without any game action yet for Mississippi State.

Texas spent part of the week preparing for one look and now has to account for another, since Swann is expected to bring a different style than Taylor. That kind of late adjustment can matter on defense, especially when a unit has to sort out tendencies on the fly and decide where the real pressure points are going to be. [Read more 🡒]
