Texas Swimming Takes Commanding NCAA Finals Lead

With record-breaking performances and a strong lineup, Texas Men's Swimming & Diving takes the lead in the 2026 NCAA Championships, heading into the final day of competition.

In a thrilling display at the NCAA Championships, the Texas Longhorns men's swimming and diving team is leading the pack with 340.5 points, keeping a narrow edge over Florida and Indiana. The McAuley Aquatic Center witnessed some electrifying performances, particularly from Hubert Kós, who shattered records in the 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay.

Kós was nothing short of spectacular, breaking his own NCAA, U.S. Open, program, and meet records during the prelims with a blistering 43.08.

But he wasn't done there. In the finals, he sliced an impressive 0.47 seconds off his prelim time, setting a new benchmark at 42.61 to successfully defend his title.

The Longhorns' depth was on full display as juniors Nate Germonprez and Will Modglin delivered All-American performances. Germonprez clinched fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a solid 1:49.69, while Modglin finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, improving his prelim time to 43.80.

Rex Maurer also made waves with a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:07.88, nearly a second faster than his prelim effort.

On the diving front, Nick Harris showcased his skills with a sixth-place finish on the 3-meter, amassing 415.00 points. His standout dive, a forward 4½ somersault tuck, earned 89.30 points. Teammate Luke Forester wasn't far behind, securing a seventh-place finish with 405.55 points.

Capping off the night, Texas set a new program record in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Modglin, Germonprez, Kós, and Camden Taylor clocked in at 2:57.22, surpassing their previous best from the SEC Championships.

Will Scholtz added to the accolades with an Honorable Mention All-America nod after placing 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke.

As the championship heads into its final day, fans can look forward to events like the 200-yard IM and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The action kicks off with prelims at 9 a.m.
