Texas Suddenly Has A Fall Camp O-Line Problem

With key players injured, the Texas Longhorns adjust their offensive line strategy ahead of the season opener.

Texas has hit a small but meaningful snag in fall camp, with the offensive line suddenly dealing with more injury uncertainty than it opened camp with.

The Longhorns started fall workouts with almost no major health issues after a spring that brought multiple ailments, but that clean bill of health didn’t last long. Offensive tackle Trevor Goosby suffered a bone bruise in his knee during a recent practice, and that puts his status for the season opener in question. He was out of the team’s latest practice, though the injury is described as less severe than it could have been.

There’s also another projected starter up front who is currently sidelined. On Monday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore had an “injury hiccup” during the team’s first scrimmage, which opened the door for Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski to work with the first-team offense at left guard.

“Laurence Seymore had had a little bit of a injury hiccup, nothing long-term, but he only got a chance to play 11 plays of real live football, so Dylan Sikorski got a lot more reps, and he showed a lot of progress there,” Sarkisian said.

At that point, the exact nature of Seymore’s issue wasn’t known, and it was unclear whether he’d miss practice time. By Tuesday, though, he was out alongside Goosby, leaving Texas with a different look along the offensive front.

According to OrangeBloods, the Longhorns’ starting offensive line in Tuesday’s practice featured Andre Cojoe at left tackle, Sikorski at left guard, Connor Robertson at center, Brandon Baker at right guard and Melvin Siani at right tackle.

The portal work Texas did on the offensive line is already showing its value. The staff made it a priority to add both starters and depth, and Sikorski’s extra run with the first unit could matter later if injuries force him into the lineup. That kind of live work in camp is a lot easier to lean on in September than trying to rush someone up to speed from the second string.

As for Seymore, Sarkisian’s comments suggest he’s not currently viewed as a threat to miss the opener against Texas State, though that remains to be seen.

Jonah Williams Could Force A Big Texas Secondary Decision

Jonah Williams has spent more of his early Texas life making noise on the baseball side than on the football field, but the Longhorns have reasons to keep a close eye on the safety talent they landed in the 2025 class. With Will Muschamp taking over as defensive coordinator and installing a pattern-match coverage system, there should be more chances for a player with Williams athleticism and versatility to carve out a real role.

The interesting part is that his path may not be tied to one spot at all. Texas could use him in different safety alignments as he gets on the field more often, and that kind of flexibility can open the door to a three-safety look. For a defense trying to find the right fit under a new coordinator, Williams might end up being one of the more important pieces in how the secondary gets sorted out. [Read more 🡒]

Texas Scrimmage Could Decide Several Key Week 1 Starting Jobs

Texas is heading into its second fall camp scrimmage with the opener against Texas State now just around the corner, and the stakes are obvious even if the Longhorns are keeping the details close to the vest. Several players were sidelined for the first scrimmage because of the flu, so this weekends work should offer a cleaner look at where things stand as Steve Sarkisian and his staff continue sorting out the depth chart.

The biggest questions remain up front and in the backfield, where starting jobs are still very much up for grabs and the next live reps could go a long way toward settling them. There is also growing attention on safety Jonah Williams, whose progress since offseason shoulder surgery has been part of the conversation in camp, and the scrimmage may help reveal just how close Texas is to locking in its Week 1 lineup.
