Texas RB Quintrevion Wisner Expected to Enter Transfer Portal After Two Standout Seasons
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Longhorns are on the verge of losing a key piece of their offense, as junior running back Quintrevion Wisner is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal. This is a significant development for a player who’s been the heartbeat of the Longhorns’ ground game for the past two seasons.
Wisner’s journey with Texas has been one of resilience, production, and leadership. After stepping into the starting role in 2024 following a season-ending injury to CJ Baxter in training camp, Wisner didn’t just fill the gap - he took ownership of the backfield.
That year, he racked up 1,064 rushing yards on 226 carries (4.7 yards per carry) and found the end zone five times. He also proved to be a reliable target out of the backfield, hauling in 44 catches for 311 yards and a touchdown.
Heading into the 2025 season, he stood as the only returning 1,000-yard rusher in the SEC - a testament to both his consistency and durability.
This season, despite missing three games in September due to a hamstring injury, Wisner still led the team in rushing. He finished the regular season with 597 yards on 129 carries (4.6 ypc) and three touchdowns, while also catching 22 passes for 146 yards and another score over nine games. His ability to contribute in both phases of the offense made him a constant threat and a tough matchup for opposing defenses.
But where Wisner really showed up was in the biggest moments. In Texas’ two marquee rivalry games - against Oklahoma and Texas A&M - he delivered his best performances of the year.
Against then-No. 6 Oklahoma in the Red River showdown, Wisner was a workhorse, carrying the ball 22 times for 94 yards and adding five receptions for 34 yards. He helped Texas control the tempo en route to a 23-6 win, keeping the Sooners’ defense on its heels all afternoon.
A few weeks later, facing then-No. 3 Texas A&M, Wisner turned in a performance that Longhorn fans won’t soon forget.
He gashed the Aggies for 155 yards on just 19 carries - an eye-popping 8.2 yards per attempt - and chipped in two catches for 19 yards. That kind of efficiency in a high-stakes rivalry game speaks volumes about his poise and explosiveness.
Off the field, Wisner has earned just as much respect. Teammates and coaches alike speak highly of his energy, leadership, and character. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has repeatedly praised Wisner for the intangible qualities he brings to the program.
“Tre brings that juice every single day in practice,” Sarkisian said. “He’s a great teammate who helps bring along younger players, and he may be the toughest guy on our team.”
After the win over Texas A&M, Sarkisian didn’t hold back in his praise, calling Wisner “a model example of what it looks like to be a Longhorn.”
Originally a three-star recruit out of DeSoto in the 2023 class, Wisner made his mark early on special teams before emerging as a go-to offensive weapon. His development from a special teams contributor to back-to-back leading rusher is a story of steady growth and seizing the moment when opportunity knocked.
Now, with two productive seasons under his belt and a reputation as both a playmaker and locker room leader, Wisner is looking to take the next step in his football journey. His decision to enter the portal will no doubt draw interest from programs across the country - he’s a proven SEC back with big-game experience and dual-threat ability.
Wherever Wisner lands next, he’ll bring more than just stats. He brings toughness, versatility, and that undeniable “juice” his coaches and teammates rave about.
For Texas, it’s the end of a chapter. For Wisner, it’s the start of a new one - and he’s already shown he knows how to make the most of those.
