Dailyn Swain Named SEC Co-Player of the Week After Dominant Showing at Missouri
Texas junior Dailyn Swain is starting to make a habit of turning heads, and the SEC is officially taking notice. The Longhorns’ versatile guard/forward was named SEC Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Florida’s Xaivian Lee. It’s the first weekly conference award of Swain’s career, and frankly, it feels long overdue.
Swain earned the nod after putting together a complete performance in Texas’ 85-68 road win over Missouri. He dropped a game-high 25 points on an efficient 9-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-6 from deep and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line.
He also chipped in six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 37 minutes of action. It wasn’t just the stat line-it was the way he controlled the game on both ends that stood out.
That 25-point outing marked his eighth 20-point game of the season and his sixth in 12 SEC matchups. He’s been a model of consistency all year, reaching double figures in 22 of Texas’ first 25 contests. Swain isn’t just scoring-he’s filling up the box score across the board.
He currently leads the Longhorns in five major categories: points (17.6 per game), rebounds (7.3), assists (3.4), steals (1.9), and minutes (31.6). That’s not just rare-it’s elite.
According to ESPN Research, only two other players from major conferences can say the same right now: Duke’s Cameron Boozer and North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson. That’s the kind of company Swain is keeping.
And he’s doing it efficiently. In SEC play, Swain is averaging 20.4 points and 7.8 boards while shooting a blistering 58.5% from the field.
He’s also knocking down 36.6% of his threes and converting at an 83.1% clip from the free throw line. He’s not just producing-he’s doing it with poise and polish.
Swain’s all-around game has also earned him a spot on the Midseason Watch List for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, and performances like Saturday’s only strengthen his case. He’s become the engine of this Texas team, the kind of player who impacts winning in every facet.
Next up, Swain and the Longhorns return to the Moody Center to host LSU on Tuesday, Feb. 17, with tipoff set for 8 p.m. Central on SEC Network. With Swain playing at this level, Texas is a team no one wants to see right now.
