As the East-West Shrine Bowl kicks off Tuesday evening at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, three former Texas Longhorns are set to showcase their skills in front of NFL evaluators - and they’ve already made an impression during the week of practices leading up to the game.
Defensive end Ethan Burke and cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau will suit up for the West team, while offensive guard DJ Campbell will represent the East. Tight end Jack Endries was also slated to participate for the East squad, but he withdrew after sustaining a minor injury during practice.
This year’s Shrine Bowl - a key stop on the pre-draft circuit - has drawn attention not just for the game itself, but for the talent and character on display throughout the week. And few players have stood out more than Burke.
According to Eric Galko, the game’s director of football operations and player personnel, Burke didn’t just flash on the field - he emerged as one of the most respected voices in the locker room.
“Burke was awesome all week,” Galko said. “He was also one of the best leaders and high-character guys.”
That blend of performance and personality earned Burke a spot as a finalist for the Pat Tillman Award, given to the player who best embodies leadership, character, and dedication - values that mirror the legacy of the former NFL safety and Army Ranger. Being recognized as a finalist is no small feat, especially in a week filled with NFL hopefuls all trying to stand out.
While the game itself will offer another opportunity for Burke, Guilbeau, and Campbell to make their case to scouts, what they’ve already shown in practice - from technique and effort to how they carry themselves - is often just as important. For many players, this week isn't just about game reps; it's about interviews, meetings, and proving they belong in a professional locker room.
With the Shrine Bowl airing on NFL Network, all eyes will be on how these former Longhorns perform under the lights. But for Burke in particular, his work throughout the week has already left a lasting impression - and possibly moved him up some draft boards in the process.
