Texas Softball Stuns With Record-Breaking 25th Win Over Baylor

Dominant Texas Softball sets a new benchmark with its 25th-straight win, showcasing power and pitching prowess in a commanding run-rule victory over Baylor.

In a dazzling display of dominance, the No. 2 Texas Softball team extended their win streak to a record-setting 25 games with a commanding 10-2 victory over Baylor at McCombs Field. This triumph not only surpassed the previous program record of 24 games set in 2006 but also stands as the longest active streak in the nation.

The Longhorns, now 27-1 overall and 6-0 in SEC play, have been virtually unbeatable at home with a perfect 15-0 record this season. Their latest win marks the 17th consecutive home victory, a streak stretching back to 2025. Texas has been relentless, securing their 15th run-rule win of the season and the third in a row, having run-ruled opponents in 12 of their 15 home games.

Freshman pitcher Hannah Wells was stellar on the mound, earning her fourth win of the season. Over four innings, she allowed just one run on four hits, striking out two without issuing a walk.

Wells set the tone early by retiring the first five batters she faced. Sophomore Cambria Salmon provided solid relief, giving up a solo homer but quickly regaining control to end the inning with a strikeout.

Offensively, Texas outmatched Baylor with a 12-5 hit advantage, featuring five extra-base hits and drawing five walks. The highlight came in the fourth inning when Reese Atwood, Katie Stewart, and Hannah Wells launched back-to-back-to-back homers, a feat achieved for only the sixth time in program history.

The Longhorns showcased their depth with multiple players contributing significantly. Junior Kayden Henry, leading off, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a triple, and a stolen base.

Senior Reese Atwood smashed her 11th homer of the season, adding two RBIs and a walk. Junior Katie Stewart was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with her 15th homer and two RBIs, while Wells added to her impressive night with her sixth homer.

Viviana Martinez was a perfect 3-for-3, driving in a run and scoring, while Leighann Goode contributed with two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Ashton Maloney and Kaiah Altmeyer also chipped in, with Altmeyer driving in a run on a sacrifice fly.

The game started with Texas plating two runs in the first inning, thanks to RBI singles from Stewart and Martinez. After a quiet couple of innings, Baylor briefly cut the lead to 2-1, but Texas responded emphatically in the fourth. Henry's two-RBI triple and Altmeyer's sacrifice fly set the stage for the home run barrage, pushing the lead to 9-1.

Baylor managed a solo homer in the fifth, but Goode's RBI single in the bottom half sealed the walk-off, run-rule win for Texas. This victory not only underscores the Longhorns' offensive prowess but also their potential to continue this remarkable streak.
