In Knoxville, the Texas Men's Swimming and Diving team is making waves at the SEC Championships. With eight gold medals and 15 podium finishes, they’re leading the pack with 1,110.5 points. Florida and Tennessee are trailing behind, but the Longhorns are showing no signs of slowing down at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
The standout performance came from Nate Germonprez, who smashed his own conference record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:48.94, surpassing the previous mark set by teammate Will Scholz. Germonprez's victory was complemented by Campbell McKean's third-place finish and Scholz's fifth-place effort.
Garrett Gould added to the excitement by advancing to the championship final in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 18.92 for seventh place. The Longhorns also delivered a strong performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing fourth with Gould, Rafael Fente-Damers, Hubert Kos, and Kyle Peck improving their seeded time to 1:26.62.
Rex Maurer capped off the night with a golden touch in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing at 4:08.46, a significant improvement from his previous best. Maurer was also honored as the 2026 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, adding another accolade to his impressive resume.
As the championships wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 21, fans can look forward to an action-packed day starting at 8:30 a.m. CT with prelims in the 200-IM, 100-freestyle, and 200-backstroke.
The women's platform prelims follow at 11 a.m. CT, leading into the finals session at 4:30 p.m.
