Texas may be headed into July with a recruiting headache on its hands.
The Longhorns spent June stacking wins on the recruiting trail as they kept building out their 2027 class, but one of their biggest commitments now looks like it could be in danger. Four-star defensive back Karnell “Greedy” James has been pledged to Texas since December, yet his next move points to a possible flip.
James is set to make a live announcement on Thursday, something that is rare for a recruit who is already committed. According to 247Sports, his decision will come down to Texas, LSU and Notre Dame, with LSU now seen as the favorite to land him. A recent 247Sports prediction also has James moving to the Tigers, which only strengthens the sense that Texas is bracing for a loss.

That puts the Longhorns in a tough spot, especially with the timing. James has been tied to Texas for half a year, and the setup of a live decision does not exactly suggest he is staying put.
LSU’s push for Texas targets may not stop there. The Tigers are also among the final three schools for Texas five-star wide receiver commit Easton Royal, who has been committed to the Longhorns since late in the 2025 season. Florida is also still in the mix for Royal.
For LSU, the momentum has been building fast. Lane Kiffin and the Tigers put together a strong June after beginning the offseason with only a few commitments, and the class has climbed into one of the best in the country. If James joins the group, that would be another major win.
If LSU were to flip both James and Royal away from Texas, it would be a huge statement before Kiffin has even coached a snap in Baton Rouge. What started as offseason skepticism about LSU’s 2027 class has already turned into something much more impressive, and the Tigers could still be adding to it.
