Texas has entered the mix for Georgia Tech linebacker commit Jason Crenshaw Jr., adding another layer to a recruitment that looks like it’s heating up fast.
Crenshaw, a three-star prospect from Prattville, Ala., announced Monday that he picked up an offer from the Longhorns. He committed to Georgia Tech in June, but the interest around him hasn’t stopped there. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State have all recently been in touch as well, putting the Yellow Jackets in a real battle as December approaches.
For Texas, the offer is another sign that Steve Sarkisian and his staff are still combing through their options in the 2027 class. The Longhorns don’t currently have a linebacker commit in the cycle, and this move suggests they’re staying patient while evaluating senior film across the country.
Crenshaw’s commitment to Georgia Tech came after an official visit to Atlanta and another trip to North Carolina, but with only a couple official visits taken during the summer, there’s still a chance more trips could be on the table. The next thing to watch is whether Texas can get him to Austin, because that would make the offer feel a lot more substantial.
And Crenshaw has given plenty of programs reason to keep pushing. He’s opened his senior season with 31 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, and two touchdowns. A consensus three-star prospect, he is ranked No. 879 nationally and No. 71 among linebackers in the 247Sports Composite.
