Texas Lands Rising Linebacker After Lightning-Fast Recruitment

Texas adds speed and production to its 2027 class with the commitment of rising linebacker Cade Haug after a rapid recruitment process.

The Texas Longhorns just added another key piece to their 2027 recruiting class, landing a commitment from Humble Kingwood linebacker Cade Haug on Monday - and it didn’t take long to make it happen.

Texas only extended an offer to Haug last Wednesday, but the 6’1”, 220-pound linebacker didn’t need much convincing. After fielding offers from a wide range of Power Five programs - including Arizona, Arizona State, Houston, Kansas State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pitt, UCF, and Utah - Haug decided Austin is where he wants to be.

And it’s easy to see why the Longhorns moved quickly. Haug has been a tackling machine over the past two seasons at Kingwood.

He racked up 153 tackles as a sophomore and followed that up with 108 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and three sacks in 2025. That kind of production jumps off the stat sheet, especially when paired with his athleticism - Haug clocked an 11.34 in the 100-meter dash last year, an impressive mark for a linebacker his size.

That burst shows up on tape, where he consistently closes space in a hurry and finishes plays with authority.

Rated as a consensus three-star prospect, Haug sits at No. 438 nationally and No. 36 among linebackers in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He becomes the fifth player to join Texas’ 2027 class, which now ranks 16th in the Composite team standings.

For Texas, this is another step forward in building a well-rounded class with a mix of upside and proven production. Haug brings both. He’s got the frame, the speed, and the instincts to contribute at the next level - and with plenty of time to develop, he could end up being one of those under-the-radar pickups that pays major dividends down the road.
