Texas Freshman Austin Goosby Named McDonald’s All-American, Joins Elite Company in Longhorns History
AUSTIN, Texas - The Longhorns just added another name to their storied basketball legacy.
Incoming freshman guard Austin Goosby, a 6-foot-5 standout from Melissa, Texas, has been selected to the 49th annual McDonald’s All-American Game - one of the most prestigious honors in high school basketball. Goosby, ranked No. 19 nationally in the 2026 recruiting class by 247Sports, will suit up with the nation’s best on March 31 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
With this selection, Goosby becomes the 24th player in Texas basketball history to earn a spot in the McDonald’s All-American Game. That’s rare air - and a strong indicator of the kind of impact the Longhorns believe he can make in Austin.
It’s worth noting that while Texas has produced McDonald’s All-Americans before, not all of them have worn the burnt orange in college. C.J.
Miles (2005) and Ron Holland (2023) both opted to turn pro straight out of high school. Goosby, however, is locked in and ready to bring his talents to the Forty Acres.
Goosby is more than just a top-20 recruit - he’s been producing at a high level on the court all season. Playing for Dynamic Prep, he’s averaged 17.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game through Jan.
- That production has helped lead his team to a 16-1 record and a No. 2 national ranking by Sports Illustrated.
He’s not just putting up numbers - he’s doing it while winning.
And the accolades don’t stop there. Goosby was recently named to the 2025-26 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Boys' High School Player of the Year Midseason Team, a nod to his all-around dominance and growing national profile.
Goosby’s game isn’t just built on high school success. He also turned heads on the Nike EYBL circuit, suiting up for Drive Nation (Texas) during the 2025 season.
Against elite competition in the 17U Spring circuit, he averaged 16.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game - numbers that earned him a spot on the EYBL 17U Spring All-Circuit First Team. That’s the kind of performance that translates, especially when you’re going up against the best of the best.
Athleticism runs in the family, too. Goosby’s older brother, Trevor, is the starting left tackle on the Texas football team and a rising redshirt junior. So when Austin steps onto campus, he won’t just be joining a new team - he’ll be continuing a family legacy in burnt orange.
With his size, skill set, and poise, Goosby brings a lot to the table. He’s a dynamic guard who can score, create, defend, and lead - and he’s already proven he can do it on the biggest stages. Now, with a McDonald’s All-American nod on his resume and a spot in Texas’ backcourt waiting for him, the Longhorns may have found their next star.
