Texas Fans Just Got Another Reminder About Landen Williams-Callis

Texas coaches take notice as high school phenom Landen Williams-Callis rewrites records and showcases star potential.

Steve Sarkisian spent Texas’ bye week exactly the way a head coach is supposed to: recruiting. But on Thursday night, he didn’t just stop by any game. With running backs coach Jabbar Juluke alongside him, Sarkisian chose to watch five-star Texas commit Landen Williams-Callis take the field.

That turned out to be a very good decision.

Williams-Callis delivered one of those nights that barely looks real on the stat sheet. He needed just 15 carries to pile up 327 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground, then added another layer to the performance by completing his fourth pass of the season for a 26-yard touchdown. Randle High School rolled past South Houston 78-0, and Williams-Callis was at the center of every bit of it.

Another game, and yet another monster performance from 5-star Texas commit Landen Williams-Callis. Oh, did we mention he also threw for a touchdown? 🤯

The outing only added to the buzz around one of Texas’ most coveted 2027 commitments. Sarkisian and his staff had plenty of other places they could have been on a Thursday night, but they made time for Williams-Callis anyway. That says plenty about where he sits in the Longhorns’ plans.

It also gave Texas a preview of what the future could look like when Williams-Callis gets to the 40 Acres. Sure, South Houston isn’t college football, but the level of high school competition in Texas is no joke. This wasn’t some empty-calorie stat line against a lightweight opponent.

The numbers keep climbing, too. Williams-Callis moved even closer to a handful of Texas high school records and got that much nearer to the state’s all-time rushing mark held by Keagan Ash, who set it at 11,382 yards last season.

For the season, Williams-Callis has now rushed for 1,166 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has also completed four of six passes for 73 yards and two more scores, and before Thursday night even began, he had added 26 receiving yards on four catches.

Arch Manning Is Driving A Texas Debate Fans Wont Ignore

Arch Mannings first month has been good enough to keep Texas squarely in the conversation, and it has also reopened an old question around his future. Through four games, he has completed 63.5% of his passes for 862 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions, a solid line that still leaves plenty of room for the sort of growth that made him one of the most watched players in the country.

The debate only gets louder from there. ESPNs Josh Pate recently slotted Manning ninth among SEC starting quarterbacks, a ranking that will not sit well with everyone in Austin, and it comes as Robert Griffin III and Todd McShay have both floated the idea that Manning could benefit from another season at Texas. For Longhorns fans, that kind of conversation is less about one early-season ranking than it is about what Manning might look like when his time in Austin is finally ready to close. [Read more 🡒]

Texas Makes Final Push To Keep 5-Star Easton Royal Committed

Easton Royals recruitment is suddenly back in the spotlight, and Texas is trying to protect a commitment it has spent about a year trying to hold onto. The five-star wide receiver from Louisiana has drawn heavy attention from LSU and Florida, but the Longhorns are making one more push with head coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson set to visit him in person.

For Texas, the timing matters because recruiting experts have recently leaned toward LSU as the likeliest landing spot if Royal changes course. Still, the upcoming visit gives the Longhorns a chance to press their case directly and see if they can shift the momentum before Royal makes his final decision. [Read more 🡒]

Texas Bye Week Changes The Feel Of A Huge Rivalry Game

Texas has earned a little breathing room in the middle of a fast-moving season, and the timing matters. The No. 1 Longhorns are riding a four-game winning streak after a strong defensive showing in their win over Tennessee, and the bye week gives them a chance to reset without losing the momentum that has carried them into the middle of October.

The pause also changes the feel of what comes next, because the next time Texas takes the field it will be for one of the sports biggest games of the year. With the Cotton Bowl still ahead and the Oklahoma rivalry waiting on the other side of the break, this is the kind of week that can sharpen focus as much as legs, and the attention around the matchup will only keep building.
