Texas commit Junior Tu’upo has made a habit of showing up in Tuscaloosa on game day, and that pattern is enough to keep a few eyebrows raised in Austin.
The four-star safety was in attendance again when Alabama hosted Florida State, marking his second visit to Bryant-Denny Stadium this fall. He was seated alongside Alabama quarterback commit and current teammate Trent Seaborn. Tu’upo had also been spotted in Tuscaloosa during another Tide game earlier in the season.
That kind of repeated presence is notable because Tu’upo is already committed to Texas, and he was in Austin just one week before the Alabama trip. He made the trek for the Longhorns’ showdown with then-No.
1 Ohio State and sounded genuinely fired up about it beforehand, writing, "Looking forward to the big game tomorrow! Texas vs Ohio, HookEm," on X.
After Texas rallied with 21 unanswered points to beat the Buckeyes, Tu’upo followed up with another message of appreciation: "What a game last night. Thank you for an incredible experience! Grateful to witness history being made between these great schools."

Tu’upo has drawn attention from both Alabama and Auburn, the two Power Conference schools in his home state, but after that first Texas visit, he committed to the Longhorns. Even so, the repeated Alabama appearances have naturally stirred some unease in Austin.
Recruiting insiders at On3 and Rivals still give Texas a 96% chance to hold onto his pledge. Auburn is listed with a 1.6% chance to flip him, while Alabama is not shown as a real threat in those projections.
There’s also a simple explanation: Tu’upo lives close enough to Tuscaloosa to take advantage of a major program opening its doors on Saturdays. That alone could account for the trips.
Still, it would probably serve Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian well to get him back on campus again, maybe for one of the Longhorns’ bigger home games later in the season, including the matchup with Ole Miss.
Tu’upo is ranked as the No. 12 prospect in Alabama and the No. 2 safety in the 2027 class. He is also the third-highest-rated defensive back in Texas’ 2027 recruiting class, behind four-star cornerbacks Brandon Sherrard and Montre Jackson. Any flip there would matter for the Longhorns’ future secondary depth, and it would sting even more if the destination were another SEC heavyweight.

Texas Suddenly Has A Major Defensive Concern Before Tennessee
Texas defensive front already had a big enough week ahead with Tennessee on the schedule, and now the edge-rusher rotation has become a little harder to read. Colin Simmons, one of the key pieces off the edge, was spotted on the sideline against UTSA in street clothes, which immediately raised eyebrows for a defense that has leaned on its pass rush to set the tone.
Steve Sarkisian did not offer an update on Simmons at halftime, and there has been no official word since, leaving the Longhorns with an open question at a position where they had added depth this season.
