Texas is still sitting alone at the top.
The Longhorns will spend a fourth straight week as the No. 1 team in the AP Poll after holding their spot in Sunday afternoon’s release, with Steve Sarkisian’s group heading into this week’s Red River matchup against Oklahoma.
A lot of the top of the poll stayed put behind Texas. Georgia handled Vanderbilt at home, Notre Dame escaped a scare at North Carolina, and Miami rolled past Clemson in Death Valley. Ohio State added a ranked road win at Iowa, Indiana tore through Rutgers, Alabama piled up 56 points against ranked Mississippi State in Starkville, and BYU knocked off TCU in Fort Worth.
The biggest shakeup came from Florida’s collapse. Missouri blew past Jon Sumrall’s team, 45-17, to give Eli Drinkwitz his first top-10 win at Missouri. Iowa and Mississippi State were the only other ranked teams to lose, and both came against top-10 opponents at home.
The rest of the AP top 25: Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Alabama, Indiana, BYU, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas Tech, Utah, Oregon, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, USC, Iowa, UCLA, Houston, Boise State, SMU and Pittsburgh.
Texas also stayed on top in the coaches’ poll, where Georgia again checked in second. Notre Dame, Miami, Indiana, Ohio State, Alabama and BYU filled out the next spots, with Texas Tech, LSU, Ole Miss, Utah, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida, Missouri, USC, Iowa, Houston, Mississippi State, SMU, UCLA, Duke, Pittsburgh and Kentucky rounding out the rest.
A few of Texas’ future opponents had mixed weekends in Week 5. Texas State fell at San Diego State, 31-29.
Ohio State won at Iowa, 31-14. UTSA edged Rice, 16-14.
Tennessee beat Auburn at home, 24-14. Oklahoma was idle.
Florida lost at Missouri, 45-17. Ole Miss was also off.
Mississippi State dropped its home game against Alabama, 56-23. Missouri beat Florida, 45-17.
LSU routed McNeese, 63-14. Arkansas lost at Texas A&M, 34-7.

Texas Enters Oklahoma Week With Its No 1 Pressure Rising
Texas is still sitting at No. 1 in the US LBM Coaches Poll coming out of its bye week, with 45 first-place votes and 1,806 total points, and the Longhorns have done enough through four games to justify the ranking for now. Wins over Texas State, Ohio State, UTSA and Tennessee have kept Steve Sarkisians team unbeaten, and the open date gave Texas a chance to catch its breath before the seasons next marquee test.
Oklahoma is up next in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl, and that is where the No. 1 label starts to carry a different kind of weight. Texas can enjoy the poll position for a week, but the Sooners will bring the kind of stage and pressure that can turn a top ranking into something harder to protect. [Read more 🡒]
Texas Soccer Just Delivered A Rivalry Win Fans Will Love
A rivalry win is always a good way to settle into conference play, and Texas had plenty to like Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Longhorns edged Oklahoma 2-1 in a match that leaned on Villarreal from start to finish, with the forward scoring both goals to give Texas a result its fans will remember.
Villarreal finished the job with a penalty kick and later delivered the game-winning strike, while goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn helped preserve the lead with five saves. In a matchup that always carries extra weight, Texas got the kind of all-around performance that can boost confidence well beyond one night on the schedule. [Read more 🡒]
Texas Enters SEC Play With One Offensive Concern Fans Can't Ignore
Through four games of the 2026 season, Texas has put together a start that looks sturdy on one side of the ball and unfinished on the other. The defense has done its job, and the Longhorns have shown more discipline overall than they did in past years, even with one game marked by a heavy penalty count. But the offense has not matched that level of steadiness, leaving Steve Sarkisian with a clear issue to sort out as SEC play begins.
The biggest concern is a familiar one: third downs. Texas has hovered at an average conversion rate there, and Arch Mannings passing numbers have been mixed enough to keep the attack from finding a clean rhythm. The Longhorns do not need a wholesale overhaul, but they do need more consistency from a unit that has flashed enough to suggest better is there if it can just show up when the downs get longer and the pressure gets real.
