Texas has spent plenty of time winning on the recruiting trail, but this one is getting away. Three-star athlete Jaiden Fields, a Hutto product who grew up just north of Austin, has trimmed his list to five schools and Texas is nowhere to be found.
Fields is set to announce his commitment on July 7, and his finalists are Stanford, TCU, SMU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. For Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns, that’s a frustrating turn for an in-state prospect who fits the kind of versatile profile programs usually love to chase.
Fields hasn’t drawn the same level of national buzz as some of the top names in the class of 2027, which helps explain why Texas hasn’t pushed hard here. But his production is hard to ignore.
Over his first two seasons of varsity football, he has piled up 2,177 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns. He’s also added 500 yards on punt and kick returns, plus 21 rushing yards and a touchdown.
And he’s not just making noise on offense. Fields has logged 70 total tackles, including 32 solo stops, along with three tackles for loss, five pass deflections, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions that he returned for 83 yards.

Texas just wrapped up a strong June with 11 commitments in the class of 2027, but Fields’ final group still stings a little more because of where he’s from and where the Longhorns sit. Instead of staying close to home, the two-way standout appears headed toward one of Texas’ rivals or farther down the road.

Steve Sarkisian May Finally Be Rebuilding Texas Around Arch Manning
After a disappointing 2025 campaign, Steve Sarkisian is spending this offseason trying to make Texas look more like a team built to put Arch Manning in position to thrive. The Longhorns have attacked the roster around him, adding Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown through the transfer portal to help the rushing game, while also bringing in offensive line transfers Melvin Siani and Laurence Seymore to stabilize the front.
The bigger picture is just as important for Texas. With Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V forming a flexible receiver group, the Longhorns have the pieces to lean into a more aggressive offense and take some pressure off Manning.
