The finish was even better than the setup. Chambliss pulled the ball on a handoff and darted past LSU safety Ty Benefield to the corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
Ole Miss then stopped LSU on fourth down to seal it.
Afterward, Chambliss let the moment rip. "Hotty fing totty," the normally polished quarterback said with a grin. Hotty f** totty, indeed.
The win vaulted Chambliss to No. 1 in Heisman odds at +310, and it’s easy to see why. The 2026 race is crowded - Texas quarterback Arch Manning has his own massive win over the then-No. 1 Buckeyes, Miami quarterback Darian Mensah has strung together 24 straight completions and sits at a wild 90% completion percentage, and Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Florida running back Jadan Baugh have both posted huge numbers.
Still, Chambliss has something the others may not: the kind of signature moment that voters remember.
He’s already piled up 924 yards and nine touchdowns in his first three games, but the storyline is just as strong as the stat line. His jump from Division II Ferris State to the SEC has been one of the most striking developments in college football, and he also spurned Kiffin to stay at Ole Miss. That’s a clean narrative, and now it comes with a win over LSU and a late-game flourish to match.
The schedule won’t get easier. Ole Miss still has No.
1 Texas and No. 2 Georgia ahead, two massive tests that also offer massive chances.
But after what Chambliss did in The Grove, he’s no longer just the best story in the sport. He’s sitting at the front of the Heisman pack, with a season that suddenly feels like it could turn historic.
