Oklahoma Eyes Star Transfer With Deep Sooner Ties

A seasoned tight end with family ties to Norman could be the next key addition to Oklahomas roster via the Transfer Portal.

The Oklahoma Sooners might be adding another Beers to the family - and no, we’re not talking about the postgame variety.

Colorado State tight end Rocky Beers, the brother of OU women’s basketball standout Raegan Beers, is expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when it officially opens on January 2. That’s according to reports, and it’s a move that could make a lot of sense for both the player and a Sooners program that may be looking to reload at tight end.

A Family Connection - and a Proven Talent

Let’s start with the connection. Raegan Beers has already made a name for herself in Norman after transferring from Oregon State in 2024.

The 6-foot-4 center has been a dominant force for Jennie Baranczyk’s squad, earning First-Team All-SEC honors and an All-American honorable mention last season. Through 12 games this year, she’s upped her game even further, averaging 18.1 points and 10.8 rebounds - both improvements over last year’s already impressive numbers.

Now her older brother, Rocky, could be looking to follow her path to Norman. And while the family link is a nice storyline, Rocky’s game speaks for itself.

Rocky’s Breakout Year

At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Rocky Beers fits the mold of a prototypical SEC tight end - big, physical, and a legitimate red-zone threat. After stops at Air Force, Florida International, and finally Colorado State, he saved his best for last. In 2025, Beers broke out in a big way, hauling in 31 catches for 388 yards and a program-record seven touchdowns - the most in a single season by a tight end in Colorado State history.

That kind of production isn’t easy to find, especially at a position that’s notoriously thin in the transfer portal. Tight ends who can stretch the field and finish drives in the end zone don’t exactly grow on trees, and Beers has shown he can do both.

A Fit in Norman?

The Sooners had seven tight ends on the 2025 roster, but only one - converted linebacker Jaren Kanak - is out of eligibility. Kanak was also the most productive of the bunch, and with his departure, there’s a clear opportunity for someone to step in and claim that role.

Given how the portal works these days, it wouldn’t be surprising to see at least one of OU’s current tight ends enter the portal themselves, especially if playing time was hard to come by this season. That opens the door for a veteran like Beers, who not only brings experience but also a proven ability to produce - something that can’t be overlooked.

OU tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley has dipped into the Group of Five ranks before to bolster his room, but Beers would be a step above any of those previous additions in terms of on-field impact. With his size, production, and family ties to the program, he checks a lot of boxes.

Bottom Line

The Sooners may not be desperate at tight end, but if they’re looking to add a plug-and-play option with SEC-ready size and a knack for finding the end zone, Rocky Beers is a name to watch. He’s got one year of eligibility left, and if he chooses to spend it in Norman, he could bring some serious value to a Sooners offense that’s always looking for matchup advantages.

And hey - it wouldn’t hurt to have another Beers in Oklahoma.
