Nebraska Has Alarming Texas A&M Problem Brewing

Nebraska navigates key recruiting battles, securing awards and potential commitments while fending off eager rivals.

Nebraska’s recruiting board is getting a little busier on both sides of the ball.

The Huskers appear to be in decent shape with some key targets, but there’s at least one name worth watching closely: four-star Nebraska commit Jordan Agbanoma. Texas A&M, fresh off missing on five-star offensive tackle Albert Simien, is looking for another big-body offensive lineman and Agbanoma has surfaced as a target. That’s not nothing, especially with the Aggies’ NIL firepower and the money they likely still have to spend after missing on Simien.

Agbanoma is a strong prospect in his own right. The 6-foot-2.5, 300-pound interior offensive lineman is ranked No. 80 overall in the 2027 class by the 247 Sports composite, fourth among interior offensive linemen and seventh in Georgia. For now, there are no signs Nebraska is in real danger, but this is one to keep on the radar.

Elsewhere, the Huskers still look like the favorite for Khalil Taylor, while Florida three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield remains a true toss-up at 50/50.

Nebraska is also trying to keep pushing on an area that needs more attention: EDGE recruiting. Matt Rhule’s staff hasn’t done enough there yet, and the Huskers made another move Sunday by offering Texas A&M commit Chance Archangel.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Louisiana edge rusher is ranked No. 255 overall in the 247 Sports composite and has already picked up offers from Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Notre Dame, and SMU. Archangel committed to Texas A&M on June 2.

And then there’s Trae Taylor, who keeps piling up the hardware.

The Nebraska quarterback commit, who recently picked up a fifth star from 247 Sports, was named Elite 11 MVP last week. 247 Sports has him as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 class, while ESPN has him at No.

  1. Taylor also caught attention online for a lively interview at The Opening, where he leaned into the moment after a reporter questioned his athleticism.

He fired back that he ran for over 700 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, in addition to everything he does as a passer.

Trae Taylor is the real deal. This is another reminder of that.

Texas May Be Losing Another Key Piece Of Its 2027 Class

Karnell Greedy James has been part of Texas 2027 class since December, but his recruitment is suddenly back in the spotlight with a live commitment coming Thursday. The four-star defensive back is drawing serious attention again as LSU and Notre Dame remain in the mix, and the latest buzz around his future has turned a once-set pledge into one of the more interesting watch items in Texas class.

The larger concern for the Longhorns is not just James alone, but the possibility of a wider LSU push against the top of their class. Texas five-star wide receiver commit Easton Royal is also still being pursued by the Tigers, giving this a chance to become more than a single flip story if the momentum keeps trending the wrong way for the Longhorns. Texas Is Getting The Kind Of Respect Title Teams Earn

The preseason honors keep piling up around Texas, and the latest batch says as much about the Longhorns ceiling as anything else heading into 2026. The Walter Camp Football Foundation put five Texas players on its Preseason All-American teams, the most of any program in the country, giving Steve Sarkisians roster another layer of national validation before a snap is played.

For Texas, it is the sort of respect title contenders are supposed to earn. Arch Manning is at the center of it, but he is hardly alone, with talent spread across the offensive line, receiver room and both sides of the ball, the kind of balance that usually travels well in the SEC. The real question now is not whether the Longhorns have the names to command attention, but how that recognition translates once the games start to matter in Austin and beyond. [Read more 🡒]

Texas QB Room Earns National Respect Behind Arch Manning

Arch Mannings second season as Texas starter is already drawing plenty of attention, and the quarterback room around him is getting its own national spotlight. CBS Sports analyst Blake Brockermeyer ranked the Longhorns No. 2 in the country at the position, a nod to a group that blends a high-profile front man with real depth behind him.

MJ Morris gives Texas an experienced insurance policy after making starts at multiple stops, while KJ Lacey and Dia Bell add the kind of long-term upside that keeps a room from feeling thin. It is a rare combination for any program, let alone one with playoff ambitions, and it helps explain why Texas is being viewed as much more than a one-man operation under center. [Read more 🡒]
