Texas Men's Tennis is making waves, and freshman Lucas Marionneau is right at the heart of it. Named SEC Men's Tennis Co-Freshman of the Week, Marionneau's accolade is a first for him and adds to the Longhorns' impressive tally of four SEC honors this season. Sebastian Gorzny has been recognized twice as Player of the Week, while Kalin Ivanovski also snagged Freshman of the Week earlier on.
Marionneau's recent performance was nothing short of stellar. He posted a 3-1 record, including two decisive straight-sets singles victories, propelling Texas to two significant road wins.
The first was a hard-fought 4-2 victory against No. 27 Kentucky, followed by a commanding 4-0 sweep over No.
13 Vanderbilt.
In the clash with the Wildcats, Marionneau gave Texas a crucial 2-1 lead with his 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Mikael Arseneault at No. 6 singles. Although he and partner Sebastian Gorzny were edged out in a nail-biting doubles tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), against Martin Breysach and Charlelie Cosnet, Marionneau's singles win was pivotal.
The momentum continued against Vanderbilt, where Marionneau clinched the sweep with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) victory over Hugo Coquelin. He and Gorzny also secured the doubles point with a decisive 6-4 win against Martinez Gomez and Danil Panarin.
Marionneau's current streak is impressive, winning four straight and 12 of his last 13 dual match singles. His season record stands at 14-2 in dual match singles and 22-9 overall. In doubles, he's holding steady with a 10-10 record in dual matches.
Lucas Marionneau is proving to be a key player for the Longhorns, and if his current form is anything to go by, Texas fans have a lot to look forward to.
