Landen Williams-Callis has already done enough at Richmond Randle to put himself in rare company, and now his commitment to Texas gives Steve Sarkisian another blue-chip weapon to pair with 5-star wide receiver Easton Royal.
The 2027 running back is the No. 3 player at his position in the class and the top recruit in Texas, carrying a 95 rating and a 5-star, .9855 composite mark on 247Sports. That profile alone would make him a notable Longhorns pledge. The production behind it makes him even more striking.
At 5-8, Williams-Callis has been a force for Richmond Randle, helping lead the program to its first UIL Class 5A Division II state championship during his sophomore season. He earned Offensive MVP honors in the title game after returning a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown and finishing with more than 100 rushing yards.
He was back in the championship game as a junior after piling up more than 3,500 rushing yards and 59 touchdowns on the season. Williams-Callis also set the championship record with a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, though South Oak Cliff won the game. Randle will get another shot at that matchup in Week 1 of the 2026 season.
His 4,035 all-purpose yards in 2025 set a Houston area single-season record, and he is also chasing the state’s career rushing record, which was previously held by his uncle, Jacquizz Rodgers, who played alongside his brother James and was an All-American at Oregon State.
So where does Williams-Callis fit among the best Texas running back recruits of the ratings era? Using 247Sports’ metrics and going back to around 2010, he lands at No. 7 on the list.
Ahead of him are some major names in Longhorns recruiting history.
At No. 10 is Derrek Cooper, the 2026 signee from Hollywood, Florida, who comes in with a 93 prospect rating. Duke Catalon checks in at No. 9 with a 94 rating after originally committing to Texas in 2014 before flipping to Houston, where he rushed for 1,165 yards across the 2016-17 seasons.
Jaydon Blue ranks No. 8. A 95-overall recruit from the Houston area, he produced 1,098 all-purpose yards in 2024, his lone season as Texas’ full-time starter, before the Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the fifth round in 2025.
Williams-Callis slots just behind Blue and ahead of Jerrick Gibson, who came in as a 96 overall prospect in the 2024 class but managed 529 rushing yards and five touchdowns in two seasons before transferring to Purdue ahead of 2026.
The rest of the list features more Texas standouts. Malcolm Brown, the 97-overall recruit from Schertz, Texas, ranks No. 4 after finishing his Longhorns career with 2,678 rushing yards. CJ Baxter comes in at No. 3 after arriving from IMG Academy as the nation’s top running back prospect and a 98 overall, though injuries limited him before he transferred to Kentucky ahead of the 2026 season.
Bijan Robinson sits at No. 2.
The Tucson native also came to Texas as a 98 overall recruit and left with 3,410 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns, numbers that put him among the best backs in program history. He has since added 3,910 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns through three seasons with the Falcons.
At No. 1 is Johnathan Gray, the only Texas running back commit ever rated a 99 by 247Sports. The Aledo star piled up more than 10,000 rushing yards in high school, led the Tigers to three straight state titles and set the national high school record with 205 rushing touchdowns. He went on to rush for 2,607 yards and 17 touchdowns in four seasons with Texas before injuries ended his chance to play professionally, though he did receive a tryout with several NFL teams and later pursued professional track and field as a sprinter.
