Texas A&M kept rolling on the recruiting trail over the weekend, and this time the Aggies landed one of the top linebacker prospects in the 2027 class.
Mikahi Allen, a four-star from Ramsey, New Jersey, committed to Texas A&M on Saturday and picked the Aggies over Texas and South Carolina. The 6-foot-1, 240-pound defender is ranked No. 17 at linebacker, No. 5 in New Jersey and No. 201 overall in Rivals’ 2027 industry rankings.
Allen is still relatively new to the position. At Don Bosco Prep, he previously played safety, but his junior season showed just how disruptive he can be all over the field. He posted 58 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two pass breakups, three interceptions - including one returned for a touchdown - three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
He also took part in the 2026 Under Armour All-America Game after that season, and he brings track speed to the table as well. Allen runs on Don Bosco’s track and field team in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and long jump.
In a June scouting report, 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins described Allen as a player who "can do a little bit of everything as he can attack the corner while playing on the ball, shoot gaps when positioned off the ball and impact passing lanes in coverage".
Allen’s pledge gives Texas A&M its third linebacker commitment in the 2027 cycle. Three-star Aston Whiteside got the ball rolling on June 1, and five-star Kaden Henderson followed on June 18.
The commitment also adds another high-end piece to a class that was already sitting at No. 1 nationally. Texas A&M now has 26 commitments in the 2027 class, with 17 rated as blue-chip prospects and six of those coming from five-star players.
For South Carolina and Texas, the miss leaves both programs in a tough spot when it comes to landing a blue-chip linebacker. South Carolina does have one linebacker already in the class in Jackson Ross, the No. 56 linebacker in the cycle, who committed on June 28.
Barring a flip in the coming months, the Gamecocks and Longhorns appear unlikely to add a blue-chip linebacker to their 2027 classes. The only uncommitted blue-chip linebacker left in the class is four-star Brayton Feister, and he is leaning heavily toward Oregon.
Texas has landed top-three linebacker recruits in each of its last two classes in Elijah Barnes and Tyler Atkinson, though Barnes transferred to Kentucky in January. The Longhorns’ most likely linebacker target this cycle is Cade Haug, a three-star who ranks No. 44 at the position.

Dan Lanning Just Got Pushed Back In A Massive 5-Star Battle
Oregons 2027 class already has two five-star headliners in wide receiver Dakota Guerrant and edge rusher Rashad Streets, but the Ducks are still working the board on several other elite targets as July rolls on. One of the most closely watched names is five-star wide receiver and defensive back Honor Fa'alave-Johnson, a player Oregon has been trying to pull into the fold while also staying active on other fronts with four-star linebacker Brayton Feister and defensive tackle Brayden Parks.
The latest update, though, suggests the Ducks have lost a little momentum in that chase, with Texas now emerging as the program making the strongest push. According to Adam Gorney, the Longhorns are still reaching out every single day, and that kind of constant pressure has helped them become the biggest threat in a battle Oregon once seemed better positioned to win. Arch Manning Just Took A Hit Texas Fans Will Feel
Arch Mannings market value has taken a noticeable turn even as he remains the face of Texas football heading into another season. The Longhorns quarterback entered 2025 with an On3 NIL valuation of $6.8 million, but by early 2026 that figure had slid to $2.5 million, a drop that pushed him from No. 1 to No. 52 in the NIL100 rankings.
The decline comes despite Manning keeping his starting job and continuing to add endorsement deals, a reminder that the NIL market can move just as fast as the scoreboard. Texas is expected to open the 2026 season against Texas State, and for Manning, the bigger question now is whether his on-field profile can climb back in step with the national hype that once made him college footballs most valuable name. USC Still Has One Serious Threat To A Five-Star Pledge
Honor Fa'alave-Johnson remains one of the most watched names in the 2027 cycle, and the five-star athlete's pledge to USC has not stopped other major programs from trying to chip away at it. Texas is still pushing hard in the background, while Oregon's involvement has faded some, leaving the Trojans and Longhorns as the main programs to watch as this recruitment keeps drawing attention.
From Texas' perspective, the appeal is obvious: the Longhorns already have a deeper 2027 class on paper, with more verbal commitments than USC, and they have also made inroads on the Southern California recruiting trail. USC still holds the commitment and Lincoln Riley's staff remains in a strong spot, but the continued pressure from Texas ensures this is not the kind of pledge anyone around the recruitment can treat as settled.
