In a surprising turn of events, former NFL star Robert Nkemdiche found himself in hot water after an alleged shoplifting incident in Georgia. The former first-round pick for the Arizona Cardinals, who once earned nearly $5 million during his NFL career, was stopped by Union City Police on February 25th.
Caught on police bodycam footage, officers confronted Nkemdiche after he was accused of concealing stolen items from a local grocery store. Among the items reportedly found were candy bars, frozen meals, and cartons of almond milk. The footage captures a tense exchange, with officers expressing frustration over what they described as repeated offenses.
One officer, clearly familiar with Nkemdiche, confronted him, saying, "Look, man. We're not going to play these games.
Because I've run into you too many times. And you keep lying."
Despite Nkemdiche's protests of innocence, the officer remained unconvinced, pointing out the suspicious bulge in his pants that led to the initial stop.
The incident report highlights that an officer, conducting a routine check, noticed Nkemdiche with large, concealed items in his sweatpants. After a brief pursuit, he was apprehended at a nearby gas station. While the store chose not to press charges, Nkemdiche was arrested due to multiple outstanding warrants across several states.
This isn't Nkemdiche's first brush with the law. His past includes a 2015 charge for marijuana possession following a fall from a hotel in Atlanta during his college days at Ole Miss. At the time, he publicly apologized, acknowledging his mistake and expressing regret for his actions.
Nkemdiche's NFL journey saw him with the Cardinals until 2018, followed by stints with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers. More recently, he's been part of the Michigan Panthers in the USFL and the Edmonton Elks in the CFL.
This latest incident adds another chapter to the complex narrative of a player once heralded for his on-field potential, now facing challenges off the field.
