Cam Coleman to Enter Transfer Portal: Auburn Star WR Set to Become Top Prize on the Market
Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman is officially expected to enter the transfer portal, according to reports, ending months of speculation about his future on the Plains. And make no mistake-this is a major move that could shift the balance of power in college football’s 2025-26 transfer cycle.
Coleman, a former five-star recruit and one of the most physically gifted receivers in the country, has been a standout performer despite playing in an Auburn offense that struggled to consistently get him the ball. At 6-foot-3 and nearly 200 pounds, he’s built like an NFL wideout already, and he’s flashed that potential over the last two seasons-racking up 1,306 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 93 catches across 25 games. Those numbers are solid, but they only scratch the surface of what he could be in a more dynamic offensive system.
Now, with one more season before he's eligible for the NFL Draft, Coleman is looking for the right situation-one where he can boost his draft stock, showcase his full skill set, and, yes, likely cash in with a lucrative NIL opportunity. But more than anything, this move is about football. He wants to play in a system that fits his game, with a quarterback who can get him the ball in space and let him do what he does best: dominate.
This decision doesn’t come out of nowhere. Rumblings about a potential transfer started back in November, not long after Auburn parted ways with head coach Hugh Freeze.
Even after the Tigers brought in Alex Golesh from South Florida to lead the program, and even after a strong push from the new staff to keep him on board, Coleman appears ready to move on. He’s expected to officially enter the portal when it opens on Friday.
From a program perspective, this is a tough loss for Auburn. Coleman was not only their top receiver but also one of the highest-rated recruits the school has landed in the modern era-ranked No. 5 nationally and the No. 2 wideout in the 2024 class. His decision reflects more than just personal ambition; it also signals the uncertainty that still lingers around Auburn’s quarterback situation and offensive identity heading into a new coaching era.
Meanwhile, for Coleman, the possibilities are wide open. He immediately becomes the top player in the transfer portal and will have no shortage of suitors.
Programs like Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, and USC are all expected to be in the mix. Alabama could be a fascinating option, where he might line up alongside fellow 2024 standout Ryan Williams.
Ohio State is another intriguing landing spot, especially if Carnell Tate heads to the NFL and Jeremiah Smith stays in Columbus.
Don’t sleep on Texas A&M either. Coleman was originally committed to the Aggies before flipping to Auburn, and he has a strong connection with Holmon Wiggins, who recruited him at Alabama and is now set to be A&M’s offensive coordinator. That past relationship could play a role in where he ultimately lands.
As for Auburn, the program is entering a new chapter under Golesh, who brings a fast-paced, quarterback-friendly system from USF. There’s a possibility of reuniting with Byrum Brown, the dual-threat quarterback who thrived under Golesh and recently entered the portal himself. That pairing could spark a much-needed offensive revival on the Plains-but it looks like Coleman won’t be part of that picture.
This move is one of the most significant developments of the offseason. Coleman brings the full package: elite recruiting pedigree, proven college production, and clear NFL upside. Wherever he lands, he’ll be expected to make an immediate impact-and potentially change the trajectory of a team’s offense overnight.
Programs across the country are on high alert. Cam Coleman just became the most wanted man in the portal.
