Arch Manning Stuns as NFL Team Reportedly Bows Out Over Family Reason

Why the Manning family might steer Arch away from the Jets, drawing parallels to a past draft drama.

Arch Manning is shaping up to be a prime contender for the top spot in the 2027 NFL Draft, but there's chatter that he might not end up with the New York Jets, even if they snag the No. 1 pick. The Jets, fresh off the first wave of NFL free agency, are seen as favorites to finish at the bottom of the league next season, which would put them in prime position to draft Manning, the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning.

However, Mike Francesa, a well-known New York radio personality, recently shared on his podcast that the Manning family might steer Arch away from the Jets. Francesa confidently stated, “They will manipulate the draft.

They will never let him get drafted by the Jets. You can take that to the bank.”

This isn’t without precedent. The Manning family has a history of draft maneuvering.

Back in 2004, Eli Manning famously refused to play for the San Diego Chargers, who held the No. 1 pick. The Chargers picked him anyway, only to trade him to the New York Giants for Philip Rivers shortly thereafter.

The Jets’ current situation echoes those earlier days. With Woody Johnson at the helm, the franchise has seen significant upheaval and continues to grapple with questions about its future direction, despite recent changes in coaching and quarterback positions. Notably, Geno Smith has returned for another stint with the team.

While the 2027 draft is still on the horizon, Francesa suggests that if the Jets do hold the top pick, the Mannings might find a way to sidestep the situation, perhaps by keeping Arch at Texas or exploring other options. It’s a storyline that promises to keep fans intrigued as the draft approaches.
