Arch Manning Is Driving A Texas Debate Fans Wont Ignore

Can Arch Manning overcome recent criticism and bolster his development as Texas continues to dominate college football this season?

Arch Manning arrived in 2026 with the kind of buzz that follows only the biggest names in college football. Texas has looked the part of a No. 1 team, but Manning’s individual production has not matched the preseason expectations that came with him.

Through four games, Manning has completed 63.5% of his passes for 862 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. He turned in a strong outing against Texas State, but the rest of his starts haven’t delivered the same jolt.

That uneven start is now showing up in the way people are talking about him. ESPN’s Josh Pate released his rankings of every starting quarterback in the SEC, and Manning came in at No. 9 - outside the top five and well below the tier many expected him to occupy. Pate ranked him behind Trinidad Chambliss, Kamario Taylor, Keelon Russell, Austin Simmons, Gunner Stockton, Aaron Philo, Sam Leavitt and Kenny Minchey.

The placement has sparked questions about how much Manning has actually grown so far. He entered the year as one of the most heavily hyped players in college football, but Pate’s list suggests the numbers still haven’t caught up to the reputation.

The bigger question around Manning may be what comes next. Former NFL quarterback and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III recently said Manning should stay at Texas for the 2027 season rather than leaving for the NFL.

“I believe he should come back for another year,” Griffin said on The Herd. “When guys are ready to go to the NFL, playing college football looks easy for them.

For myself when I came out, when Andrew Luck came out, it looked easy in our last years. It doesn’t look easy for Arch yet.”

Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay has also floated the idea of Manning sticking around at Texas for another season with Steve Sarkisian.

For now, though, Manning still has a full season to reshape the conversation. Texas remains at the top of the college football rankings, and every snap from here will draw even more attention.

Texas Fans Just Got Another Reminder About Landen Williams-Callis

Landen Williams-Callis keeps finding ways to remind Texas why it was so important to land him. The five-star running back commit delivered another eye-opening night for Randle High School, piling up 327 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a lopsided win over South Houston while head coach Steve Sarkisian and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke watched from the stands.

Williams-Callis also showed off the kind of all-purpose ability that makes him such a tough cover, tossing a 26-yard touchdown pass in the 78-0 rout. He has been productive all season as well, with 1,166 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns plus more yardage through the air and in the passing game, a reminder that Texas is getting more than just a traditional runner. Texas Makes Final Push To Keep 5-Star Easton Royal Committed

Easton Royals recruitment is suddenly back in the spotlight, and Texas is trying to protect a commitment it has spent about a year trying to hold onto. The five-star wide receiver from Louisiana has drawn heavy attention from LSU and Florida, but the Longhorns are making one more push with head coach Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Chris Jackson set to visit him in person.

For Texas, the timing matters because recruiting experts have recently leaned toward LSU as the likeliest landing spot if Royal changes course. Still, the upcoming visit gives the Longhorns a chance to press their case directly and see if they can shift the momentum before Royal makes his final decision. [Read more 🡒]

Texas Bye Week Changes The Feel Of A Huge Rivalry Game

Texas has earned a little breathing room in the middle of a fast-moving season, and the timing matters. The No. 1 Longhorns are riding a four-game winning streak after a strong defensive showing in their win over Tennessee, and the bye week gives them a chance to reset without losing the momentum that has carried them into the middle of October.

The pause also changes the feel of what comes next, because the next time Texas takes the field it will be for one of the sports biggest games of the year. With the Cotton Bowl still ahead and the Oklahoma rivalry waiting on the other side of the break, this is the kind of week that can sharpen focus as much as legs, and the attention around the matchup will only keep building.
