Texas QB Arch Manning Undergoes Surgery Ahead of Crucial Offseason

Texas star quarterback Arch Manning is recovering from minor foot surgery this offseason, a precautionary move as the Longhorns gear up for a high-stakes 2026 campaign.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning underwent minor foot surgery this week, the program confirmed Friday - a proactive move aimed at cleaning up a lingering issue from earlier in his career. The procedure was described as preventative, and all signs point to Manning being back on the field in time for spring practice.

Manning stepped into the full-time starting role in 2025 and delivered a strong campaign, guiding the Longhorns to a 10-3 record. He threw for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns, with just seven interceptions across 13 starts. But it wasn’t just his arm that made an impact - Manning added 399 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground, making him Texas’ second-leading rusher and showing off the dual-threat ability that had scouts buzzing since his high school days.

While the season didn’t start the way many expected - especially with Manning entering as a Heisman favorite - he found his rhythm down the stretch. Over the final six games, he accounted for 20 total touchdowns and only two turnovers, leading Texas to a three-game winning streak to close out the year.

That run included a statement win over previously undefeated Texas A&M in the regular-season finale and a Citrus Bowl victory over a ranked Michigan squad. Manning took home MVP honors for the bowl game, capping a season that showcased both his resilience and high ceiling.

Manning isn’t the only Longhorn recovering from offseason surgery. Five other key players - wide receivers Ryan Wingo (wrist) and Emmett Mosley V (ankle), left tackle Trevor Goosby (shoulder), linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith (shoulder), and defensive back Xavier Filsaime (shoulder) - also went under the knife to address injuries following the season. According to the team, all are expected to be fully healthy by the time the 2026 season kicks off.

Texas wrapped up 2025 ranked No. 12 in the final AP poll, falling short of a College Football Playoff berth after beginning the year as the preseason No. 1.

But with a strong core returning and a top-tier transfer class coming in, expectations are once again sky-high in Austin. The Longhorns landed at No. 5 in The Athletic’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 for 2026 - and on paper, they’ve got the firepower to make a serious run.

In addition to Manning, Wingo, Goosby and standout edge rusher Colin Simmons are all back in the fold. And Texas made major noise in the transfer portal, reeling in a group that could make an immediate impact.

Auburn receiver Cam Coleman brings size and explosiveness on the outside, while running backs Hollywood Smothers (NC State) and Raleek Brown (Arizona State) add depth and versatility to the backfield. On defense, Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles bolsters the second level, and Wake Forest offensive tackle Melvin Siani adds experience and stability up front.

With a healthy Manning leading the way, a reloaded roster, and momentum from a strong finish to 2025, Texas enters 2026 with unfinished business and a roster built to chase it.
