Texas A&M Targets Elite Recruiter to Boost Already Stacked 2026 Class

As Texas A&M continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail, a high-profile coaching addition signals their intent to elevate even further.

The Texas A&M Aggies continue to build serious momentum-not just on the field, but behind the scenes as well. Head coach Mike Elko is already making waves on the recruiting trail, hauling in the nation’s No. 9 class for both 2025 and 2026, and even holding the top spot for 2027.

But Elko isn’t just stacking talent-he’s stacking his staff, too. And on Tuesday morning, the Aggies made a notable addition.

Texas A&M is expected to bring in former Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams as its new linebackers coach, according to multiple sources. It’s a move that adds both coaching experience and recruiting firepower to Elko’s staff.

Williams, 42, spent the last two and a half seasons in Fayetteville before being let go during the 2025 campaign. While his time at Arkansas ended short of expectations, his reputation as one of college football’s elite recruiters remains intact. That’s a big deal for a program looking to maintain its edge in the ever-intensifying SEC talent race.

Before his stint with the Razorbacks, Williams served as the defensive coordinator at UCF from 2021 to 2022. He also spent a significant portion of his coaching career at Auburn, where he held various roles from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2014 to 2020. During that time, he worked as a defensive analyst and linebackers coach, helping to shape some of the Tigers’ more physical and aggressive defensive units.

Williams also brings the perspective of a former player. He was a two-time All-SEC second team selection during his playing days at Auburn, and he had a brief stint in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007.

While his pro career was short, it wasn’t without a highlight-he pulled off a memorable 37-yard run on a fake punt in Week 16, which actually made him the Falcons’ leading rusher in that game. Not exactly your typical linebacker stat line.

Now, he steps into a Texas A&M program that’s aiming high. With the College Football Playoff looming, Elko and his staff are deep into preparations for their first-round showdown with Miami. That game kicks off at noon ET on Saturday, Dec. 20, and while Williams won’t be calling plays just yet, his presence adds another layer of energy and experience to a coaching staff that’s clearly building for more than just one postseason run.

In a sport where recruiting and player development often make the difference between good and great, this hire signals that Texas A&M isn’t just thinking about now-they’re building a foundation for sustained success. And with Williams on board, the Aggies just got even more dangerous.
