Texas A&M is rolling-and they’re doing it with purpose.
At 16-4 overall and 6-1 in SEC play, the Aggies are heading into Saturday’s road matchup against Georgia with momentum and rest on their side. That 92-69 dismantling of South Carolina last weekend wasn’t just a statement win-it was a showcase of what this team looks like when everything clicks. Now, with a mini bye week in the rearview, the challenge becomes sustaining that energy through a critical stretch of the season.
The next five games are no walk in the park. Four of them fall into the coveted Quad 1 category, the kind of matchups that can boost a team’s NCAA Tournament resume-or expose cracks. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned under first-year head coach Bucky McMillan, it’s that consistency isn’t just a buzzword in College Station-it’s becoming an identity.
This team didn’t flinch after the winter break. They came out firing against LSU to open conference play and haven’t looked back since.
Road wins over Auburn and Texas have helped fuel their SEC-best 6-1 start, and they’re doing it with an offense that’s been nothing short of explosive. Texas A&M is averaging north of 90 points per game and leading the SEC in several offensive categories.
That kind of firepower travels-and it’s why the Aggies are in a strong position as the season heats up.
According to the latest projections from Bart Torvik, Texas A&M is sitting pretty. The Aggies rank 28th overall and have a 97.8% chance of making the NCAA Tournament.
That’s the sixth-best mark in the SEC, trailing only Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas. In other words, they’re not just in the mix-they’re firmly in the field.
And even with a few potential road bumps ahead, they’ve built enough of a cushion to absorb some turbulence. A handful of losses down the stretch likely wouldn’t derail their tournament hopes, but McMillan’s squad doesn’t strike you as the type to coast.
Circle the calendar for a week from Saturday-Florida comes to town. That’s a big one.
But before that, it’s Georgia on the road this Saturday at noon CT, with the game airing on SEC Network. The Aggies will also face Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas in hostile territory before this stretch is over.
This is where seasons are made-or tested. Texas A&M has shown they can handle the heat. Now it’s about keeping the pressure on.
