Texas A&M is heating up at just the right time.
With a commanding 88-68 win over Mississippi State on Wednesday night, the Aggies continued their strong push through SEC play, improving to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Back at Reed Arena after a hard-fought road win over Texas, this group looks like a team finding its identity-and leaning into it with confidence.
At the heart of it all? Rashaun Agee.
The senior forward is playing the best basketball of his career, and on Wednesday, he delivered again. Agee dropped 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out five assists-marking his ninth double-double of the season.
It wasn’t just a big stat line; it was a statement performance. He controlled the game on both ends, showing why he’s quickly becoming one of the most impactful players in the SEC.
For a guy who transferred in from USC, he’s made himself feel right at home in College Station.
Texas A&M didn’t dominate every category-Mississippi State actually won the rebounding battle 39-37-but the Aggies made up for it in just about every other way. They were lights out from the free throw line, hitting 23 of 24 (a scorching 96%), and forced 13 turnovers while only giving the ball away three times-all in the first half. That kind of discipline and execution is how you win big in conference play.
And it wasn’t just Agee. This was a full-team effort, something we’ve come to expect from this squad during SEC play.
Four players scored in double figures, and while the team shot a solid 41% from the field and 35% from three, the nine made triples actually felt like a modest total given how efficient this offense has been lately. When your "off night" still results in 88 points and a 20-point win, you’re doing something right.
On the defensive end, the Aggies were relentless. Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard came in as one of the Bulldogs’ top scoring threats, but Texas A&M held him to just 12 points-his lowest output of the season.
That’s not a coincidence. This team has been locking in defensively during SEC play, and Wednesday was another example of how their pressure and physicality can throw opponents off rhythm.
With the win, Texas A&M now finds itself tied atop the SEC standings-a spot few might’ve predicted at the start of the season, but one that feels earned. Head coach Bucky McMillan has this team playing with purpose and energy, and the chemistry is showing on both ends of the floor. The Aggies are sharing the ball, defending with intensity, and getting contributions from all over the roster.
There’s still a tough stretch ahead, but this group looks ready for it. They’ve already proven they can win on the road, they’ve shown they can grind out close games, and now they’ve shown they can blow the doors off a conference opponent when everything clicks.
Next up? A home matchup with South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. If the Aggies keep this momentum rolling, they won’t just be a problem in the SEC-they’ll be a team no one wants to see come March.
