Texas A&M Pushes Hard for Elite 2027 Defensive Lineman Recruit

Texas A&M is making a strong late push to flip one of the nation's top defensive recruits as it builds serious momentum toward a historic 2027 class.

Texas A&M is making a serious early push for the top spot in the 2027 recruiting rankings, and if the next two junior day weekends go anything like the Aggies are hoping, they could be in prime position to secure it. The buzz is strong in College Station, with several five-star prospects reportedly trending toward the Aggies - and the coaching staff has their sights set on flipping one of the biggest names in the class.

That name? Jalen Brewster - the top-ranked defensive lineman in the 2027 cycle, the No. 6 overall prospect nationally, and the No. 3 player in the state of Texas.

Right now, Brewster is committed to Texas Tech, but that hasn’t stopped the Aggies from turning up the heat. And with good reason.

Brewster is a game-wrecker on the interior, a rare blend of size, strength, and explosiveness that already has scouts projecting him as a future first-round NFL Draft pick.

Mike Elko and his staff aren’t backing down from the challenge. After landing and signing five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington in the 2026 class - a player who could push for early playing time as a freshman - Elko has shown he’s more than capable of winning battles for elite talent. Now, the focus shifts to Brewster, and the Aggies are going all in.

Brewster recently spoke about the attention he’s been getting from Texas A&M, and it’s clear the Aggies are staying aggressive.

“A&M is still recruiting me hard and I hear from a lot of those coaches,” Brewster said. “Coach Elko is involved and I’m also hearing from coach Mann, coach Lynch and all of the defensive coaches. That’s another school I’m considering for an official visit.”

That’s exactly what Texas A&M wants to hear. Getting Brewster on campus is the first step toward potentially flipping him from the Red Raiders, and the Aggies’ staff is working to make that happen sooner rather than later. New defensive line coach Elijah Robinson is already making noise in the transfer portal, and he’s expected to play a key role in Brewster’s recruitment alongside defensive staffers Tony Mann and Sean Lynch.

The Aggies are aiming to get Brewster back on campus this summer and again during one of their 2026 home games - a two-pronged approach that could keep them firmly in the mix down the stretch.

Still, it won’t be easy. Indiana is also in the picture, and head coach Curt Cignetti has built something real in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers have gone from Big Ten afterthought to national title contender under Cignetti’s watch, and they’re gearing up to face Miami in the National Championship Game next Monday. That kind of momentum can’t be ignored, and Brewster is expected to visit Indiana in the near future.

But for now, Texas A&M is right where they want to be - in the conversation, in constant contact, and in position to make a move. If they can get Brewster on campus and show him what Elko is building, don’t be surprised if the Aggies make a serious run at flipping one of the crown jewels of the 2027 class.
