Texas A&Ms Top 2027 Class Has One Recruiting Problem Fans Hate

With Texas A&M's exceptional recruiting class in the making, the Aggies are eyeing the missing piece to their lineup - a powerhouse running back to sustain their playoff ambitions.

Texas A&M has spent the offseason stacking wins, and the recruiting board reflects it. The Aggies reached the College Football Playoff for the first time, then turned that momentum into the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the country. Under Mike Elko, the message is clear: the work on the trail is only the start.

That success has already produced a loaded 2027 class, with Texas A&M sitting at No. 1 there as well and more names still in play. The class includes 11 commitments ranked among the top-10 recruits for the cycle, but one glaring hole remains. The Aggies still do not have a running back committed, and that spot looks like the biggest priority for the rest of the cycle.

One of the main targets was Landen Williams-Callis, the No. 4-ranked running back in the class and an in-state prospect with video game-like numbers throughout his high school career. But it now appears more likely that he will commit elsewhere, which would leave Texas A&M without a back in the class.

That makes the next move tricky. Nearly every other running back the Aggies have offered is already committed somewhere else, so the list of realistic options is thin. Still, there are a few in-state names committed to other schools that Texas A&M could try to flip.

Noah Roberts, currently pledged to Texas, is one of them. With the Longhorns also the leader for Williams-Callis, Roberts could decide he wants a different path and a clearer chance to be the lone running back in a class.

Two more possibilities are SaRod Baker, who is committed to Texas Tech, and Jakoby Dixon, who is committed to Oklahoma.

Landen Williams-Callis Just Confirmed Aggie Fans Biggest Recruiting Fear

Texas A&M has spent much of this recruiting cycle building real momentum, but the running back board still has a nerve-wracking edge to it. Landen Williams-Callis, one of the more closely watched names in the mix, is set to make his college decision on August 1, and the Aggies are in a crowded race that also includes Houston, Missouri, SMU and Texas.

For A&M, the wait matters because this is the kind of prospect that can shape the rest of a class, especially at a position where the staff wants to keep options open. If Williams-Callis goes elsewhere, the Aggies would likely have to pivot quickly and look for another path in the backfield, with Texas Tech commit SaRod Baker emerging as a possible alternative. Mike Elko May Have Found Texas A&Ms Next Locker Room Leader

With KC Concepcion and Cashius Howell off to the NFL, Texas A&M is heading into the new season with a few familiar faces expected to carry more of the load. One of the most important is Owens, who shook off a preseason injury last year and then turned in a strong 2025 campaign, giving the Aggies a productive presence in the backfield when they needed it most.

Owens rise matters because A&M is not just looking for production, it is looking for stability in a locker room that has lost some proven voices. After a season that included career-best rushing numbers and a couple of eye-opening performances, he enters 2026 with a chance to become one of the players Mike Elko leans on most as the Aggies try to replace both snaps and leadership.
