Texas A&Ms No. 1 Class Just Got Even More Dangerous

Texas A&M's top-ranked 2027 recruiting class strengthens its grip on the future with rising stars in the Rivals300 Rankings and strategic coaching adjustments.

Texas A&M’s 2027 class keeps piling up talent, and Monday’s Rivals300 update only added to the buzz around what the Aggies have built.

The class already sits at No. 1 nationally and now stands at 26 commitments after four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen picked Texas A&M over Texas and South Carolina. Allen joins five-star Kaden Henderson and rising three-star Aston Whiteside in a linebacker group that looks set to shape the Aggies’ future rotation.

The rankings movement was just as notable as the commitment count. Four Texas A&M pledges climbed in the latest Rivals300 update, and the headliner remains five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, who is now the No. 2 overall prospect.

Safety Kamarui Dorsey also moved up, landing at No. 19.

Texas A&M now has 10 commitments ranked inside the top 100, and two more names cracked the top 300 on Monday. Whiteside checked in at No. 253, while versatile athlete Errol Kerns landed at No. 285.

The Aggies’ recruiting haul has been driven in large part by some of Mike Elko’s top staffers. Heading into his third season, Elko elevated Holmon Wiggins to offensive coordinator after Collin Klein became Kansas State’s head coach, and he named Lyle Hemphil the new defensive coordinator after Jay Bateman left for Kentucky.

On the recruiting trail, running backs coach Trooper Taylor and defensive line coach Tony Jerod-Eddie have helped land more than half of the 26 commitments. Cornerbacks coach Ismael Aristide has also made his mark, landing unanimous five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey and four-star safety JayQuan Snell.

Texas A&M’s linebacker room for the future keeps taking shape, and the class still has room to grow. Five-star running back Landon Williams-Callis is expected to land with Texas, but Elko and his staff will keep pushing for blue-chip back and current Texas Tech running back commit SaRod Baker this fall.

Why Texas A&M Fans Should Watch Mike Elkos Sanford Decision Closely

Texas A&Ms footprint at SEC Media Days is starting to come into focus, and the Aggies will send a familiar mix of leadership and intrigue to Tampa. Quarterback Marcel Reed, safety Marcus Ratcliffe and linebacker Daymion Sanford will represent the program, while Mike Elko and the 2026 team captains are also scheduled to speak as the leagues preseason spotlight turns toward College Station.

Sanfords presence on the list is the one that stands out most for Aggie fans, given the uncertainty around his availability entering the season. Reed gives Texas A&M a chance to put its young quarterback on a big stage, and Ratcliffe offers another veteran voice, but Sanfords appearance could be the first meaningful update fans get on where he stands as the program heads into fall camp. Rueben Owens Has One Last Chance To Become An Aggie Star

Rueben Owens II has spent his first two seasons at Texas A&M in a supporting role, but the path in front of him looks very different now. With the backfield opening up, Owens is projected to step into the lead job in 2026, giving the Aggies a chance to see whether the former rotational piece can become the kind of feature back that changes the shape of an offense.

There is reason to believe the opportunity is real. Owens handled a career-high workload in 2025 and finished with 639 yards and five touchdowns, production that showed what he can do when the ball is in his hands more often. For Texas A&M, the stakes are bigger than one players breakout, since a strong season from Owens would fit neatly into a larger push to put the Aggies in national championship contention.
