After rolling past Texas State, the Longhorns moved ahead of Ohio State in the latest update. That dominant start sets up a heavyweight Week 2 meeting with Ohio State, which sits right behind Texas at No. 2 in the FPI after hammering Ball State 56-3. The Buckeyes and Longhorns now head toward their matchup in Austin with the rankings already reflecting the stakes.
The SEC is still crowding the top of the board. Texas leads a group of five league teams inside the FPI top 10, with Georgia holding steady after a comfortable win over Tennessee State.
LSU jumped two spots to No. 7 after a rout of Clemson to open the Lane Kiffin era. Alabama dropped one place to No. 9 despite its win over East Carolina, while Texas A&M climbed from No. 11 to No. 10 after shutting out Missouri State 50-0.
Elsewhere in the SEC top 25, Oklahoma landed at No. 11, Ole Miss checked in at No.
15, South Carolina moved up seven spots to No. 16 after beating Kent State, Florida came in at No. 17, and Tennessee fell to No. 18.
