Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class may be on the verge of getting even tighter.
Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, one of the headliners in the Aggies’ No. 1-ranked group, said after St. Thomas Aquinas’ win over DeSoto that he plans to put out a post on X soon, a sign he could be ready to shut down his recruitment and lock in with Texas A&M.
Matthews, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound left tackle, opened his senior season this month and remains a major piece of what Mike Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing are building. The Aggies are pushing to secure his signature on Early Signing Day later this year, and Matthews has continued to sound firm in his commitment during several interviews this summer.
That bond with the staff still seems to be doing plenty of the heavy lifting. Matthews pointed to assistant head coach and running backs coach Trooper Taylor as another key reason he landed with Texas A&M, alongside Cushing and Elko.
"I guess you could say he was one of the bigger factors besides Coach Cushing and Coach Elko," Matthews stated to GigEm247. "I love Coach Troop."
The source of that confidence has been consistent all along: Matthews has stayed “all in” with the Aggies, and Elko’s vision for the program has clearly kept him locked in.
If Matthews does follow through and officially shut things down, he would join fellow five-star offensive lineman Kennedy Brown and four-star tackles DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott as part of Texas A&M’s four-man offensive line class in 2027.
