Miami didn’t just land a five-star wide receiver on Thursday. It picked up a future headline, too.
Brysen Wright, the top-rated receiver in the 2028 class, committed to the Hurricanes over Texas and Florida, then added a second jolt by announcing he’ll reclassify to 2027. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound standout has been one of the country’s most sought-after prospects since his freshman year at St. Augustine High School, and he’s now the top in-state recruit for Mandarin High School in Jacksonville.
Wright’s decision gives Miami another major win on the recruiting trail after the Hurricanes had already landed five 5-star recruits in the 2027 class. Mario Cristobal and his staff have kept the momentum rolling, and Wright’s commitment only strengthens that surge.
The list of schools chasing Wright was a long one. Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, LSU, Louisville, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Tennessee all extended offers, but Miami was the first to do so, back in December 2023.
From there, the Hurricanes stayed in the mix consistently. Wright made repeated trips to campus for junior day events, elite recruiting weekends, and summer prospect camps.
His most recent visit came a couple of weeks ago, when he watched Miami beat Florida State in double overtime.
On the field, Wright has backed up the hype. As a sophomore in 2025, he caught 46 passes for 903 yards and earned Sophomore All-American honors from MaxPreps.
That same site lists him with 46 receptions for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns for the 9-1 Mustangs. His next stop is the Florida Class 5A playoffs.
Wright has also been working alongside another Miami commit this season, 3-star 2028 quarterback Knox Annis, who has been throwing him passes. Miami’s 2028 class already includes 4-star offensive lineman Kweli Fielder from Carrollton, Ga., though Wright’s reclassification means he’ll be arriving on campus earlier than those two.
With Wright now in the fold, Miami can turn its full attention to finishing the 2027 class. The Early Signing Period is a month away, and the Hurricanes are still in the hunt for 5-star edge-rusher DJ Jacobs and 5-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. If Cristobal can close on both, Miami would be staring at a class with real historic potential.

Texas A&Ms QB Situation Just Put Marcel Reed Under Real Pressure
Texas A&M is heading into its matchup with South Carolina with Marcel Reed still slated to start at quarterback, but the conversation around the position has clearly shifted. Fan interest in seeing backup Brady Hart has grown, and head coach Mike Elko has already acknowledged that a change under center was considered earlier in the season, which tells you this is no longer a routine week-to-week decision.
Reed now carries the kind of pressure that comes with a short leash, especially if the offense gets off to a rough start. Elko has softened his stance on the possibility of a benching, and that leaves the Aggies with a quarterback situation worth watching closely as the game unfolds, because the first stretch could go a long way toward determining whether Reed gets a chance to settle in or whether the conversation turns to Hart. Texas A&M Is Already Pushing Ahead At A Tense Recruiting Spot
Texas A&M is already working ahead on the back end of the defense, extending a scholarship offer to Troy Bishop, a rising 2028 four-star safety from Mater Dei High School. It is the kind of early move that fits the modern recruiting calendar, especially for a staff trying to stay ahead of the curve while also keeping an eye on the present roster and the rest of the 2026 season.
The timing matters because the Aggies are navigating some uneasiness around their 2027 class after recent commitment changes, even as they continue evaluating other defensive back targets. Mike Elkos staff has plenty on its plate, and this offer shows the program is still pressing forward on future talent even with a few recruiting questions still hanging in the air. [Read more 🡒]
Texas A&M Upset Hopes Ride On One Offense Problem Being Fixed
Texas A&M heads into its matchup with South Carolina needing more than a clean effort to have a real shot at an upset. The Aggies have several performance markers in front of them, and the most obvious one starts with the ground game. If KJ Edwards is available and can give the offense a true spark, Texas A&Ms chances improve quickly, especially if he can push past the 100-yard mark and help the Aggies control the pace.
Marcel Reeds role may be just as important, since Texas A&M will likely need him to create chunk plays through the air and keep the offense from bogging down. The Aggies also need Reed to be more effective on the ground than South Carolinas LaNorris Sellers, which adds another layer to the challenge. For Texas A&M, this is less about style points than meeting a very specific set of offensive benchmarks, and whether those boxes get checked could decide the entire afternoon. [Read more 🡒]
