Texas A&M’s search for a 2027 running back took a hit when Landen Williams-Callis chose the Longhorns, but the Aggies are not short on options. If anything, the loss only sharpened the focus on the kind of in-state target Trooper Taylor tends to keep chasing until the very end.
That approach worked last cycle after Jonathan Hatton, Jr. flipped to Oklahoma late in the process. Texas A&M could have settled in with KJ Edwards, but Taylor kept pushing and landed Carsyn Baker, who is already making noise in fall camp for the Aggies.
Now the question is whether there’s another Baker-type target out there for Texas A&M in 2027. The answer appears to be yes, and it comes in the form of Texas Tech commit SaRod Baker of DeSoto.
Baker has been on Texas A&M’s radar for a while, and the Aggies have already shown real interest. He even visited Texas A&M over the summer while still pledged to Joey McGuire and Texas Tech.
He also reminded everyone why he’s such a coveted target with a run that had people talking over the weekend.

The power Baker showed on that play jumps off the screen. Texas A&M may have been pursuing a different style of runner in Williams-Callis, but there’s always room for a back who runs with that kind of force and edge.
Getting him to move off his Texas Tech commitment won’t be easy, though. The Red Raiders and Cody Campbell have made their ambitions clear in this modern recruiting era, and keeping high-level prospects in the fold is a big part of that push.
So if Texas A&M wants Baker, it will have to stay on him hard. That’s where Taylor comes in. He has built a reputation for making his presence felt on the recruiting trail, and this looks like exactly the kind of battle he won’t back away from.
