Texas A&M's Mike Elko Stuns Fans With Major Injury News Before Spring Ball

Texas A&M's head coach Mike Elko outlines crucial injury updates as the Aggies gear up for a promising spring football season with new strategic additions on the coaching front.

Texas A&M is gearing up for an exciting spring football season, with Coach Mike Elko stepping into his third year at the helm. The Aggies have their sights set on a return to the College Football Playoff, but the road ahead is anything but easy. With challenging away games against powerhouses like LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma, the path to 9, 10, or even 11 wins is steep.

For the Aggies to replicate last season's success, maintaining a healthy and deep roster is crucial, especially as they dive into SEC play. The team has been busy in the offseason, bringing in 17 players via the transfer portal and welcoming 26 new freshmen from the 2026 signing class. Elko, along with his newly bolstered coaching staff featuring Holmon Wiggins as the offensive coordinator and Lyle Hemphill on defense, has plenty of work ahead.

Earlier this week, Elko, Wiggins, and Hemphill addressed the media, offering insights into the roster's current state. Elko provided updates on several players who missed the entire 2025 season due to injuries, along with news on a couple of fresh faces who might be sidelined this spring or possibly into the fall.

The good news? Former five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles is making his return, albeit in a limited capacity. Joining him with limited availability are tight end Micah Riley, offensive lineman Papa Ahfua, cornerbacks Jamar Beal-Goines and Dezz Ricks, and safeties Dalton Brooks and Rashad "TomTom" Johnson.

On the flip side, cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway and freshman defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler won't be hitting the field just yet due to in-season injuries. Despite these setbacks, the overall health of the team is promising, thanks in large part to the effective offseason training led by S&C coach Tommy Moffitt.

As the Aggies prepare to kick off their spring season on Friday, the blend of returning talent and fresh faces sets the stage for what could be a thrilling journey. With Elko's strategic leadership and a strong support system in place, Texas A&M is poised to tackle the challenges ahead with determination and grit.
