Texas A&M heads into its 2026 opener against Missouri State with a roster that looks different, and one of the biggest reasons for that shift is junior wide receiver Mario Craver.
Craver and senior safety Marcus Ratcliffe met with local media on Tuesday after third-year coach Mike Elko held his press conference on Monday. The Aggies are coming off an 11-2 season and a College Football Playoff appearance, but there’s still a clear sense that this group is chasing more.
Craver’s rise has been one of the most important developments in Texas A&M’s offense. After transferring from Mississippi State before the 2025 season, he arrived with a reputation for burst and separation, traits that were on full display in Mississippi State’s 2024 home loss to Georgia. That performance helped put him on the radar of Elko and new offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins, who, along with KC Concepcion, made Craver one of their top transfer targets.
The payoff came quickly. Last season, Craver and Concepcion teamed with starting quarterback Marcel Reed to produce nearly 1,900 yards and 11 touchdowns. Craver posted career bests across the board with 59 catches, 917 yards and four touchdowns.
Now, with Concepcion gone after being selected 24th overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2026 NFL Draft, Craver is one of the players expected to carry the load in a deep receiver room that also includes Ashton Bethel-Roman, Terry Bussey and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton.
Craver also talked Tuesday about his mindset as he enters what is likely his final college season before moving on to the NFL. One of the biggest changes has been physical: he said he added a reported 15 pounds during the offseason. He also pointed to the team’s motto, “finish,” a word that carries extra weight after Texas A&M started 11-0 last season before losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the CFP.
For the Aggies, the immediate task is Missouri State on Saturday. After that, the schedule tightens quickly, with Arizona State next before Texas A&M dives into all nine SEC games that will shape its 2026 season.
