Texas A&M is finally back under the lights, and the Aggies are set to open the 2026 season against Missouri State on Saturday night.
After a long offseason, Mike Elko’s third Texas A&M team gets rolling with plenty of buzz around it. Elko guided the Aggies to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history last season, and now he’s working with a revamped roster as the new nine-game SEC schedule begins this fall.
The biggest question for any team with postseason hopes usually starts at quarterback, and Texas A&M has a proven answer in Marcel Reed. The redshirt junior is returning for his second full starting season after posting career highs of 3,169 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He’s also coming off what the source describes as his best preseason yet.
Reed won’t be short on weapons. He’s set to throw to one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the country, while Elko and his staff have also reshaped the roster through the portal. Texas A&M added 17 transfer players, bringing in pieces to fill several key openings on both sides of the ball, including former Northwestern edge Anto Saka and Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton.
Up front, though, the Aggies still have some sorting to do. Four new starters are expected along the offensive line, and that group is one of the first spots worth watching as camp wraps up. Even so, Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing are confident they’ll settle on the final starting five in the coming weeks.
With kickoff less than 12 hours away, Texas A&M’s media team dropped its first pregame hype video for the matchup. The Aggies host Missouri State on Saturday night at 6 p.m., and the game will air on ESPN.

With Marcel Reed on his way out after his redshirt junior run, Texas A&M is looking ahead to the next chapter at quarterback. Brady Hart is one of the names in the mix, and the staff also has an eye on a bigger-picture answer in the 2028 class with five-star commit Donald Tabron III, who already looks like a major piece of the programs future.
